Popstars Ariana Grande and Lady Gaga have finally teamed up. They collaborated on the track “Rain On Me,” released it in May 2020 as the second single of Gaga’s album Chromatica. And it didn’t take long before fans of the two artists were singing its praises.
With many celebrities joining in with the Arianators and Little Monsters enjoying the song, the accompanying music video for “Rain On Me” received a lot of attention. And they loved everything, from the choreography to the visuals. Read on to see some of the reactions, as well as the shot that reminds some of the Marvel Cinematic Universe film Avengers: Endgame.

After weeks of speculation and days of teasers leading up to the drop, “Rain On Me” was released on May 22, 2020, at midnight EST. Several hours later, the music video debuted, featuring Grande and Gaga and shot before the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
The song is about dealing with heartbreak and learning to embrace and work through the pain. In the video, Grande and Gaga are surrounded by harsh visuals, dancing as it pours down. But in the end, they let go of their frustrations and dance joyously, enjoying the rain.
These musicians are ‘obsessed’
Other musicians were quick to praise the track and the video. “I’m obsessed,” wrote Grande’s friend Demi Lovato in the comments of one post advertising the duet. But as much as fans loved the song, it was the video, directed by Robert Rodriguez, that earned the most acclaim.
“Crazy visual. Two legends” wrote Lil Nas X on Twitter. Sister music act Chloe x Halle (consisting of Chloe and Halle Bailey) agreed, writing “wowwww” followed by several emojis in response to Gaga’s Twitter post about the video.
Jonathan Van Ness and Jojo Siwa danced along

The “Rain On Me” choreography quickly became fodder for social media videos worldwide. Jonathan Van Ness of Queer Eye fame was among the first to share a clip of him dancing to the song on his Instagram Story, and many others joined shortly after that (including Grande herself, along with her brother, Frankie Grande and mom, Joan Grande).
TikTok is the place for posting dance videos, and “Rain On Me” interpretations soon flooded the network. One of the most famous dancers (both on the platform and beyond) is Jojo Siwa, who celebrated reaching 23 million followers with the song in a since-deleted video. This makes sense, as her choreographer, Richy Jackson, did the “Rain On Me” music video.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe tie-in
There are plenty of comparisons that can be made between the “Rain On Me” video and other elements of pop culture. Rodriguez has worked on numerous films that fall into the post-apocalyptic and action genres, and if you’re getting Alita: Battle Angel vibes from the video, that would make sense, since he helmed the 2019 film.
But there’s another major release from last year that fits the mold. As seen above, the first image from “Rain On Me” depicts Gaga lying on the ground in a familiar way. That’s because it looks almost identical to how Natasha Romanoff (and Gamora before her) looked when she fell to her death in Avengers: Endgame. Intentional or not, there’s no denying the resemblance.
