Brian May, 72, was rushed to hospital after suffering a heart attack at home. It comes after he was hospitalised for a gardening injury that left him with a ripped muscle and trapped nerve.

The father-of-three returned to Instagram today and thanked fans for their support and well-wishes, as he likened the messages to reading funeral tributes.

The Queen legend also opened up following the aftermath of the heart attack and admitted he felt “like I died”.

The rockstar said he was “overwhelmed” by the amount of support he had received.

In view of his 2.4 million followers, Brian explained: “Hello lovely folks. I’m overwhelmed and more than touched by the torrent of love and support that’s come back at me after the incredible press coverage. I didn’t expect all of that.

“As you can see I’m ok. But this is going to sound really strange but my email box is so full of incredible messages. I’ll never be able to thank you all individually.

“So let me please at least thank you here. It’s just unbelievable.”

He added: “Now this is going to sound really strange but I sort of feel like I died and yet I was able to come to the funeral and see all of the tributes.”

Brian went on: “I often think that at funerals, all these people come and say these wonderful things about the person that’s gone but he or she can’t hear it.

“I’m lucky, I got to hear it – so my life is complete. Yeah I’m sorry if that sounds weird, but I can’t compare it with anything.”

The musician went on to state he is “taking it easy and doing physio” as he recovers, concluding: “But thank you, thank you thank you, that’s all I can say, for the fantastic amount of love you’ve given me. It’s really appreciated, I will never forget it.”

Fans flocked to comment on the video message, as one person said: “Brian May you are my idol. I hope you get better legend.”

Another person commented: “Sending you all of my love, Bri. Now and always. Take care of yourself. You are so loved.”(sic)

While a third person added: “Stay safe and get well soon.”

Brian’s admission comes after he revealed that he suffered a “small heart attack” on the picture-sharing site yesterday.

The star’s heart scare came a few days after a separate medical issue, when he thought he had ripped his glutes during a gardening accident.

Brian said: “I was shocked, I thought I was a healthy guy. In the middle of the whole saga of the painful backside, I had a small heart attack.

“It was about 40 minutes of pain in the chest, the arms, sweating. My wonderful doctor drove me to the hospital himself.”

The guitarist explained how he had an angiogram – an X-ray used to examine blood vessels – where medical staff discovered that three of his arteries were blocked and he may have to undergo open heart surgery.

However, Brian admitted he went for the alternative and was subsequently fitted with three stents – tiny tubes that can hold open blocked arteries – and says he is back in full health.

He said: “I walked out with a heart that’s very strong now, so I think I’m in good shape for some time to come.”
