David Beckham ‘in talks with Netflix and BBC for cooking show’ after ‘seeking advice from Gordon Ramsay’

David Beckham may be known for his right foot skills on the football pitch, but seven years after retiring from the beautiful game he could have his sights set on a new skill: cooking.

The 45 year old husband of former Spice Girl Victoria Beckham is reportedly in talks with Netflix and BBC for his very own cooking show to show off his passion.

David, who recently reportedly sought planning permission for a secret escape tunnel in his Cotswolds home, is said to be cooking every day amid the lockdown, and has even taken part in Gordon Ramsay’s cook-alongs on Instagram Live.

A source has told The Sun: “One of the unintended benefits of lockdown for David has been the opportunity to do what he loves most – baking.

“He’s been recreating some of his mum’s old recipes, and got a load of pots and pans for his birthday recently.”

David is said to also be focussing on his media company Studio 99, which he launched last year to create documentaries and TV shows of other formats.

The insider continued: “David’s also used this time to really focus on Studio 99, and initially chatted to Gordon about the pair doing an Instagram Live.

“He’s seen how well Gordon has done with his own cookery shows and his Studio Ramsay production company, and Gordon’s given him some great advice.

“Series like The Last Dance on Netflix – about basketball player Michael Jordan – have made networks including the BBC keen to talk to sportspeople.”

They added: “The appetite is there for someone like David.

“Plus he comes with a huge social media presence which, in this day and age, is basically free advertising.”

It comes after Becks and his wife Victoria, 46, reportedly launched a PR campaign to “save their reputation” after Posh Spice’s fashion company placed staff on the government-funded furlough scheme, and then U-turned after backlash.

Victoria came under fire earlier this year when she tried to use taxpayers' money to pay staff of her fashion brand, despite her and David being worth a whopping combined £335million.

And the famous family have been said to be reportedly trying to win back the faith of the public by supporting a number of charities.

David, who celebrated his 45th birthday in lockdown recently, has been making friendly phone calls to the elderly on behalf of Age UK and Victoria has been making care packages for her neighbours.

A source said: “David and Victoria's team have gone into overdrive to try to win over the public again.

“They are using their social media channels to reaffirm all the charities they help and remind their people how much good work they do.

“Not long after Posh's U-turn, where she said she would no longer be using the furlough scheme, they started posting about the care packages they were sending out to vulnerable people with Age UK.

“David reposted messages from two charities he’s previously helped. They've been advised to keep reminding the public of all the great work they do to try to take the heat off them.

“But it's all a bit obvious. The public aren't daft, they'll likely see straight through it. But Posh took such a hammering, they're willing to try anything,” the insider continued to tell The Sun.
