Dwayne Johnson rips into Trump over George Floyd protests response

Dwayne Johnson has delivered a scathing critique of President Donald Trump’s response to the George Floyd protests, calling out the lack of a ‘compassionate leader’.

The Hobbs & Shaw actor shared a lengthy Instagram video addressing the US government’s handling of the Black Lives Matter protests, which were sparked following the horrific death of George Floyd.

Floyd died on 25 May during an aggressive arrest in Minneapolis which saw four police officers restrain him on the ground, with one kneeling on his neck for eight minutes as Floyd cried out: ‘I can’t breathe.’

Trump has been heavily criticised for ‘hiding’ during protests outside the White House in Washington DC.

In his post’s caption, Dwayne aka The Rock wrote: ‘Where are you?

‘Our country is crippled and on its knees, begging to be heard and pleading for change.

‘Where is our compassionate leader? The leader who unifies and inspires our country at our most painful time when we need it the most.

‘The leader who steps up and takes full accountability for our country and embraces every color in it.

‘The leader who picks our country up off its knees and says you have my word – we got this – and together, change will happen.

‘Where are you? Because we’re all here. Maybe one day that galvanising leader will emerge. Either way, the process to change has already begun.’

In the video, Dwayne echoed the sentiments and explained that while he’s not a politician, he is a father concerned about his children ‘and the world they will live in. I care so deeply about our country and every single person in it’.

The 48-year-old actor continued: ‘That’s who I am. I am a man who is frustrated, I’m disappointed, I’m angry but I’m also doing my best to stay focused and as calm as I can possibly be in the pocket, to make the best decisions for my family and make the best decisions for our country.’

Dwayne isn’t the only celebrity to take aim at Trump this week, as Avengers star Samuel L Jackson also called out the president.

‘No way that Muthafukkah was hiding out in the basement!! He Said he was watching the Secret Service Ninjas kick protestor ass! He was about to jump down there & hahahahahaha…. he’s a whole pack of busted rubbaz!!!’ [sic] Samuel tweeted amusing many of his followers.
