Gemma Collins ‘gives James Argent one more chance’ after he publicly admits drug addiction

After James Argent bravely confessed his addiction to cocaine last week, girlfriend Gemma Collins has reportedly vowed to stay by his side – if he can give drugs up for good.

A well-placed insider told new! magazine that Gemma, who has been dating Arg on and off for eight years, is reportedly delighted he has finally sought help for his drug issues and hopes this means they can now focus on starting a new chapter together.

“Gemma is really happy that Arg has finally come out and admitted it,” a friend of the couple told the publication. “She knows you have to admit your addiction before you can ever defeat it. They really do love each other so she’s willing to give it one last chance now everything is out in the open and she’s not having to deal with it on her own.”

Last week, Arg, 32, spoke out about the worrying extent of his cocaine addiction, which included solo drug-fuelled benders lasting multiple days. And the source has said that as well as pleasing Gemma, coming clean about his demons has done him the world of good too.

“He feels 100 times better now than before,” the insider explained. “He’s looking forward to the future for the first time in a while. He knows he’s got a long road ahead, but now he’s not on his own and with everyone around him, he knows he can do it.”

Arg also revealed that it was his 39-year-old girlfriend’s “tough love” that ultimately saved his life.

“I really feel for Gemma because she’d had to go through so much,” he explained. “When I was deep in my addiction I would hate Gemma. I would say, ‘Why are you telling my family? Why are you telling my friends? Why are you telling bosses of my TV shows? You’re going to ruin my career.’ But she refused to cover up for me, she wasn’t an enabler, she would never lie for me.

“She gave me some tough love for sure, she was hard on me, but thank God she was. If it wasn’t for Gemma calling the ambulances to my house, God knows what would have happened.”

The former TOWIE star spoke in detail about the overdoses last year that led to the emergency services being called to his Essex home.

“I locked myself in my house and took drugs for three days straight on my own in the pitch black,” he admitted. “I was at rock bottom. My heart was beating out of my chest, my nose was bleeding, I was shaking and my breathing was terrible.”

He admitted that by Christmas he “couldn’t get any lower”, saying, “I’ll never forget on Christmas Day sitting on my own eating a kebab for dinner. At that point I knew that was the moment where I said I need to get better and sort this out.”

In a last ditch attempt to save himself, Arg checked into a Thai rehab facility, The River, on New Year’s Eve, with the help of close pal Mark Wright.

And the source is said to have revealed that this decision to seek help put his plans to set up home with Gemma on ice.

“They had planned to move in to Arg’s new house together before his last stint in rehab, so with that and the lockdown they are leaving it until the end of the year,” the source explained.

Arg revealed he is now looking to the future with Gemma and is even thinking about sealing the deal with her by throwing a wedding that will be “bigger than the Beckhams’”.

“One hundred per cent I want to get married and have children,” he said. “But I know if I was to relapse again, Gemma has made it clear to me that she’s done everything that she possibly can. She wants marriage and wants kids, but if I relapse again or go downhill, it’s done.”

Gem previously told new! magazine she wants to start a family “one million per cent” and thinks Arg is father material.

“He’s so good with children. He does really love kids,” she said.

The Diva Forever star also admitted that, despite potential issues with her fertility after being told she has a “low egg count” in 2017, she’s in “no rush” to get pregnant. “I think I’ll have a child when I’m about 40,” she told us.

The insider is said to have revealed how the pair are waiting for Arg’s drug issues to be well and truly behind him before they take their relationship to the next level.

“Gemma wants to marry Arg and he does her, but he’s got to concentrate on getting himself fully recovered before he thinks about proposing,” the source said. “She knows this too, so hopefully next year can be their year.”
