In recent days,Phillip Schofield ’s friendship withHolly Willoughby has been the source of a rumour regarding a reported rift.
While the pair were once notoriously close, going on holiday together and sharing plenty of banter on our TV screens, theThis Morning duohave been hit by reports that they aren’t as close as they once were.
According to a source inThe Sun, Holly and Phil are “barely speaking” and have “become more distant” off camera.
But this isn’t the first time that the couple’s friendship and working relationship has been hit by allegations of hitting a rocky patch since they began working together back in 2009.
Let’s take a look at their alleged disagreements throughout the years, and what they’ve said about them…
Back in 2019, Holly and Philwere hit by reports that their relationship was strained after they appeared on the cover of a magazine together, with Holly being portrayed as the “bigger star”.
However, TV insiders slammed the rumours and insisted that the pair were still good friends.
“The idea that Holly and Phil have fallen out is just stupid and untrue,” an insider told new! magazine at the time. “They really are great mates.”
Phil alsoaddressed reports of a fallout in 2020 as part of his book Life’s What You Make It and said that the reports couldn’t have been further from the truth.
“We were closer than we’d ever been. Holly knew my truth and was helping me to hold everything together,” he wrote.
Elsewhere, Holly addressed allegations of a rift during a 2021 episode of Fearne Cotton’ Happy Place podcast where she said it was difficult to see people claim that she and Phil were going through a “tough time”.
She said: “I was watching from afar when you’ve got every person in the press saying that you and Phillip are having a tough time. Meanwhile, you’re great friends and there were no arguments.”
She continued: “That was a particularly difficult time. But I remember having a conversation with Phil and it was like, ‘But we know.”
Meanwhile, during their time on the This Morning sofa, viewers have occasionally claimed that the pair have appeared to look less close than usual.
In October, some viewers accused Holly of pulling an unimpressed face during a segment of the show, theIrish Mirror reported at the time.
However, after one TikTok user commented that “Holly don't look impressed”, another came to Phil’s defence and explained: “He was probably told to say his lines in his ear piece as they normally are.”
And speaking of their time together on the show in 2020,Holly explained that it would be “impossible” for them to fake their friendship given the time it takes to film one episode of the show.
“We know what we’re like. It would be impossible for us to fake the giggles,” she told Closer magazine.
“I’m on the telly for two and a half hours – let me tell you, I’m not that good an actress. If I was, I’d be doing something else.”
