James Martin: Saturday Morning star left ‘broken’ by death of chef and friend Michel Roux

James Martin, 47, paid tribute to legendary chef Michel Roux, who has died at the age of 79.

The TV presenter described the French-born chef as a “legend”, and praised his close friend for his support and advice over the years.

Michel’s family released a statement today confirming his death.

It read: “It is with deep sadness that the Roux family announces the passing of our beloved grandfather, father, brother and uncle, Michel Roux OBE.”

The statement added: “For many, he was a father figure inspiring all with his insatiable appetite for life and irresistible enthusiasm.”

It seems Michel played that fatherly role for James, who said he will always love the charismatic teacher.

The ITV star said he was “broken and so sad”, in an online tribute.

James took to Instagram this afternoon to share the sad news with his 282,000 followers.

He wrote online: “Broken and so sad to let you know we have lost a legend and me a friend.”

The restaurateur continued: “Words cannot describe what this man did for me in my life… he taught, he listened, he advised and he strengthened every part of what I do.”

An emotional James added: “Michel I love you, always have and always will..

“Take care my friend and I will see you soon…”
