Kim Kardashian couldnt zip Marilyn Monroe gown and hid open backside with fur shawl

Kim Kardashian was forced to leave her backside open after being unable to zip up the Marilyn Monroe dress she wore on the red carpet of the Met Gala.

The 41 year old fashionista and reality star opted for something different this year as she donned a vintage gown by Jean-Louis to tie in with the theme In America: An Anthology of Fashion on 2 May.

The dress is well known for the very same worn by Marilyn Monroe back in 1962 when she sang "Happy Birthday" to president John F. Kennedy.

And while Kim only wore the gown for a mere few minutes before changing into a replica, it appears the star wasn't able to zip it up all the way.

In a video by Ripley's Believe It or Not! museum, where she borrowed the gown from, Kim could be seen panicking as the gloved team struggled to get it over her derrière.

"Once it gets up, it'll fit the back," Kim could be heard saying in a video obtained by TMZ, as her boyfriend Pete Davidson said: "You're good, relax."

She then asked: "Should I go to the gym?"

Once the dress was up, Kim turned around to look at how much was exposed from the back. She said: "Oh my God, can we use that tie to tie the back and keep it open? What if we did that and put a fur over it?"

She then put the white fur shawl on, which is similar to the one Marilyn wore during her concert decades ago, before walking around in the dress with Pete, 28, by her side.

While the dress didn't fit perfectly, Kim did put a great deal of effort to pull the look off as she embarked on a strict diet and exercise routine to shed 16lbs.

Speaking before the star-studded event, she shared: "The dress was transported by guards and I had to wear gloves to try it on."

The reality star, whose boyfriend recently appeared to unveil a new tattoo dedicated to her and her kids, continued: "I always thought she was extremely curvy. I imagined I might be smaller in some places where she was bigger and bigger in places where she was smaller.

"So when it didn’t fit me I wanted to cry because it can’t be altered at all."

Kim didn't just give up and find another dress to wear though. Instead, she took on the task of losing weight to wear it.

"I would wear a sauna suit twice a day, run on the treadmill, completely cut out all sugar and all carbs, and just eat the cleanest veggies and protein," she shared of her diet.

She added: "I didn’t starve myself, but I was so strict."

A month after she took on this diet and routine, she went back to Orlando for the final fitting and told Vogue that she "wanted to cry tears of joy" when it fit.

Kim also opened up on her look on the red carpet with her friend Lala as she shared: "This is Marilyn Monroe’s dress it’s 60 years old. She wore this when she sang happy birthday to John F. Kennedy in 1962."

She continued: "I tried it on and it didn’t fit me. I had to lose 16 pounds to be able to fit this. It was such a challenge it was like a role.

"I don’t think they believed that I was going to do it but I did it."
