Naya Rivera may have hit her head while diving from the boat where her son Josey was found alone, a diver searching for her body has claimed.

The 33 year old former Glee star is presumed to have drowned at Lake Piru in southern California after her son was found alone on the rented vessel on Wednesday.

A recovery operation is underway, after the search was temporarily called off on Friday night as the darkness limited to visibility for the rescue divers.

Search and rescue diver Robert Inglis has now told DailyMailTV the actress could have “hit her head on debris” while diving into the lake.

Police are said to be using sonar, underwater robots, a chopper and sniffer dogs in a bid to search for the actress.

But, there are fears the Glee actress’ body may never be found as a spokesperson for the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office is said to have told reporters that they have not been able to locate the star and they have switched “efforts into a search and recovery operation”.

Sergeant Kevin Donoghue has since provided an update as he revealed there is CCTV footage from the dock that shows the Glee star's rented boat departing.

According to Mirror Online he also explained that it could be weeks before the body is found as he said: “If the body is entangled on something beneath the water, it may never come back up.
