10 IGTV and Instagram Workouts for While You’re Stuck at Home

Among the many parts of everyday life that have been disrupted by the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic and subsequent social distancing are people’s fitness routines. Gyms and boutique studios across the country are totally shut down, and Americans are turning to places like IGTV for their workouts from home.

First, let us say you do not have to work out right now. Exercise is a proven and powerful stress reliever—something we’re all in need of now—but it shouldn’t be used to shame you into avoiding the #quarantine15. If the idea of adding an at-home barre class to your already overwhelming day makes you want to cry, don’t do it! Prioritize whatever form of self-care works for you.

If working out is your thing, technology is very much your friend during this uncertain time. Trainers and fitness influencers alike are sharing their new at-home workouts on social media that you can stream right from the comfort of your own living room.

Cat Meffan

The fitness blogger and yoga teacher is offering workouts on her social channel to help people stay fit and manage the stress of the moment. “I’ve been blown away by the amount of people around the world that a practicing with me during these uncertain times,” she wrote on Instagram. “It’s a beautiful thing to feel so connected to you all through yoga and meditation.”

Laura Biceps

Fitness influencer and trainer Laura “Biceps” Hoggins is posting daily workouts to Instagram at 7 a.m. every day (though you can watch them for 24 hours) for her followers. “Nearly a week ago we had to make the heartbreaking but right decision in accordance with the government guidelines to close the doors on our home The Foundry, like many PT’s and gym owners, I instantly lost a sense of purpose. So I decided to adapt and take an element of our training, digital,” she wrote. “I want to stress that there is zero pressure to ‘workout’ or continue training, as let’s be honest it’s been quite tough to get used to this new normal for now. But I do know, that regular exercise can give you the headspace you need managing everything else going on.⁣”

?? STAY STRONG AT HOME – DAILY 7am on mine and @foundryfit IG LIVE⁣ ⁣ Nearly a week ago we had to make the heartbreaking but right decision in accordance with the government guidelines to close the doors on our home The Foundry, like many PT’s and gym owners, I instantly lost a sense of purpose. So I decided to adapt and take an element of our training, digital.⁣ ⁣ I want to stress that there is zero pressure to ‘workout’ or continue training, as let’s be honest it’s been quite tough to get used to this new normal for now. But I do know, that regular exercise can give you the headspace you need managing everything else going on.⁣ ⁣ I’ve been doing these LIVE (and saved to watch back within 24hrs!) workouts [35 mins] for nearly a week now, and although with limited kit, we might not be hitting those big PB’s right now, but there is a lot you can do with tempo and isometric work to provide a decent stimulus.⁣ ⁣ I can’t thank you enough for your feedback! From NHS nurses getting some exercise in, lads and ladies @foundryfit continuing to train with us, to Mum’s getting it done before they start home schooling! I’m just happy I can help in some way, from 2m or above ? ⁣ ⁣ Let me know what equipment you have and I will see you tomorrow at 7am!⁣ ⁣ #WTSB

Looking for a workout to do at home? I’ve gotchu covered. ?⁣ ⁣ All you need for this is a willing pet participant. Volunteering here today are my two puppers, @ollieandjellie. ??⁣ ⁣ Try the below full body session, repeating each exercise for three sets each. For any superset (denoted as A1 A2, etc.), you are to complete the first exercise, rest just long enough to catch your breath, then complete the second exercise, rest for roughly 2 minutes, and then go back to the first exercise. The reps you want to perform are up to your ability and the load of your pet, but I would recommend somewhere between 8-15 reps for most exercises. ⁣ ⁣ A1. Pug reverse lunge⁣ A2. Bent over pug row⁣ B1. Pug thrust⁣ B2. Overhead pug press ⁣ C. B-stance pug good morning ⁣ D1. Pug curl ⁣ D2. Overhead chihuahua extension ⁣ E. Chihuahua twist ⁣ ⁣ Of course, you can always grab a lighter pet if needed (such as when I swap out Ollie for Jellie towards the end). You get bonus points for snuggles in between sets. ?⁣ ⁣ If you don’t have a pet, you can try inanimate objects such as a sack of rice or potatoes. ⁣ ⁣ Remember that proper technique is always your first priority. ⁣ ⁣ Be safe and have fun! ?⁣
