Joe Marler has hit out at the furious backlash he’s received after he was caught fondling the genitals of Wales captain Alun Wyn Jones’ during England’s 33-30 victory at Twickenham.
England survived a spirited second-half fightback from Wales to secure the Triple Crown and keep their Six Nations title hopes alive, with Anthony Watson, Elliot Daly and Manu Tuilagi all crossing over on Saturday, but much of the talk after the match surrounded the questionable conduct of some of Eddie Jones’ players.
The hosts clung on to the win with only 13 men on the field after Ellis Genge found himself in the sin-bin and Manu Tuilagi was sent off for a dangerous no-arms tackle on George North and a short clip of Marler grabbing Wyn Jones’ sensitive area in the first half has divided opinion among supporters, players and pundits.
While Wyn Jones called on World Rugby to act after Marler escaped punishment, Gareth Thomas made light of the incident during his half-time analysis in the ITV Sport studio. The former Wales full-back has since apologised for his comments.
Marler, usually no shrinking violet, has remained tight-lipped since England’s narrow victory but the Harlequins prop finally broke his silence on Sunday evening with some choice words as he made his feeling known about the explosive reaction to his behaviour.
‘B****cks. Complete b****cks,’ the England loosehead tweeted.
