Disney World Just Announced Its Proposed Reopening Date

Disney World may be a destination for travelers this summer after all. The theme park, along with other Disney properties, has been closed since mid-March due to the COVID-19 outbreak in the U.S. and restrictions placed on large gatherings by local governments.

But the company just announced its proposed plan for a phased reopening, which they hope to begin on July 11 for its Magic Kingdom parks and July 15 for Epcot and Hollywood Studios in Orlando, according to CNN. Plans have not yet been announced for Disneyland because California's stay-at-home orders are still in place throughout the state.

Variety reports changes to procedures at the parks "would include temperature checks upon arrival, physical distancing, enhanced cleaning, handwashing and sanitizing stations, and 'limited-contact enhancements,' such as contactless payments, mobile orders at restaurants, and the temporary suspension of high-touch experiences such as character meet-and-greets and playgrounds." There would also reportedly be a reduced capacity at the parks, as well as a suspension of parades and other activities that might attract even larger crowds. Variety also notes that staffers would be given temperature checks and wear face coverings.

The dates are not yet set in stone, however. "Both SeaWorld and Disney World's proposed reopening plans have been given the okay by the task force," local Orlando reporter Ashley Carter tweeted. "The plans will now need an endorsement from Orange County mayor Jerry Demings, who will send them to Gov. Ron DeSantis for final approval."

While its parks may have been closed for a few months, Disney has still been trying to spread some joy to its fans. Throughout the quarantine it has been releasing recipes for favorite dishes and treats typically served at restaurants at Disney World, Disneyland, and other theme parks. And they've definitely been a hit as people have been flooding social media with their versions of cookie fries, grey stuff, Tonga Toast, Dole Whip, and more.
