DEAR DEIDRE: I WENT for a date with a woman I’d met online and it was so humiliating.
She headed for the loo within minutes of saying hello and returned with her phone ringing, saying she had to leave immediately because of an “emergency”.
It was obviously staged and I said as much.
She walked off without another word.
I felt ugly.
Am I so different from my photos?
I am 45.
Other dates seemed to go well only for the other person to message saying they didn’t want to meet again.
I’m so lonely.

DEIDRE SAYS: Both parties want to get something out of any relationship, so think about what you are offering.
Neediness is offputting to someone new but looks matter less than how you present yourself.
Think what would make a woman feel positively towards you.
Ask a female friend, colleague or relative about your dress sense.
Does it need updating?
Or maybe get a new haircut.
Get some activities going so you have an active social life already on the go but ask your date lots about her life too.
My e-leaflet Feeling Lonely? will help.
