Ten Hag gets off on the right AND wrong foot

Manchester Utd boss Erik ten Hag is making his players undergo training session where they use just their weaker foot, according to reports.

Ten Hag is making training drills tailored to improving player’s ‘wrong foot’ after realising there is a lack of left footers in the squad.

The Red Devils signed Tyrell Malacia, Lisandro Martinez and Antony to their squad over the summer to add more natural left footed players to the team along with Luke Shaw.

Ten Hag believes it is important to have a strong weak foot and be able to play with both feet as he looks to change the style of Man Utd into a more possession based team.

Manchester Evening News report that the 52-year-old has created specific drills to make players use their weaker foot.

The squad all take part in main sessions before more niche drills begin.

    Arnautovic still scoring for fun

Marko Arnautovic continued to show Manchester United what they missed out on as the Austrian scored his sixth Serie A goal of the season.

The Bologna ace, 33, was heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford this summer to play under Erik ten Hag.

Arnautovic worked with Ten Hag at FC Twente and was a short-term option to solve a problem in the forward department.

However, fan backlash scuppered the deal and Arnautovic pledged his focus to Bologna.

And so far, Arnautovic is coming good on that pledge, scoring six in six Serie A games played.

His latest goal to keep him as the league’s top scorer came in the 2-1 win over Fiorentina.

    Good morning Man Utd fans

It has been confirmed – there will be three Premier League games off this weekend, including Man Utd’s clash with Leeds.

The statement read: “Premier League fixtures will resume this weekend after a pause to the season as a mark of respect following the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

“Seven of the 10 Premier League fixtures this weekend will be played, with three matches postponed due to events surrounding The Queen’s funeral.

“Matches postponed on Sunday 18 September are Chelsea vs Liverpool at Stamford Bridge, and Manchester United’s home match vs Leeds United."
Cristiano Ronaldo will have more offers to move to Saudi Arabia next year, according to football chief Yasser Al-Misehal.

Ronaldo could not find a suitable club to join in the summer in his bid for Champions League football and that led Saudi Arabia outfit Al-Hilal to make a bid.

    Al-Hilal reportedly offered CR7 a two-year deal worth a staggering £211million – which works out to £2m a week.

But he rejected the offer along with a proposal from Al-Nassr.

Despite that, president of the Saudi Arabian Football Federation Al-Misehal believes more bids will be made from Saudi clubs next year.

    More on cancelled games

Prem chiefs have called off the weekend’s two biggest matches because Police resources are required to deal with the lead-up to The Queen’s funeral.

Chelsea’s home clash with Liverpool and Manchester United’s game with Leeds are both postponed – despite the FA giving football the green light to resume across the country.

The decision came hours after Uefa pulled the plug on Arsenal’s Europa League tie with PSV Eindhoven, citing “severe limitations on police resources and organisational issues” relating to the funeral.

That sparked fears that the Prem programme would be significantly impacted by demands on the Police.

But after a day of talks between the authorities, Prem chiefs announced the other seven matches due to be played this weekend WILL go ahead, including two in London.

Ajax boss looks to copy United and beat Liverpool

Ajax boss Alfred Schreuder hopes to copy the achievements of pal Erik ten Hag against Liverpool tomorrow night.

Ten Hag, who quit the Amsterdam club in the summer, helped new team Manchester United to a 2-1 win over Liverpool last month.

And now Schreuder, 49, who has arrived from Club Brugge, also hopes to topple Jurgen Klopp’s Reds like United.

The Dutchman, Ten Hag's assistant for 18 months before joining Hoffenheim in 2019, said: “I have looked at the United match and what they did.

“There are certain things they did that are applicable to us.

"You have to be good with the ball against these kinds of teams. You need to have guts and courage. Courage is key. If you have that, then you have a chance."

    Al-Misehal on Ronaldo

Al-Misehal told The Athletic: “We would love to see a player like Cristiano Ronaldo playing in the Saudi league.

"It would bring a huge positive feedback and it would be big news for everyone. I’m sure everyone knows the achievements and records of Cristiano Ronaldo, but also as a player who is a great role model.

“I think, ‘Why not?’. I’m sure it would be a very expensive deal, of course, but we can see our clubs getting higher revenues in the past couple of years.

"We have already seen some big players who used to play in the Premier League come to the Saudi league.

“I like Cristiano Ronaldo as a player and I would like to see him play in Saudi Arabia.”

    More Saudi bids for Ronaldo

Cristiano Ronaldo will have more offers to move to Saudi Arabia next year, according to football chief Yasser Al-Misehal.

The striker, 37, told Manchester United he wanted to leave the club in June in search of Champions League football.

Ronaldo could not find a suitable club to join and that led Saudi Arabia outfit Al-Hilal to make a bid.

    Al-Hilal reportedly offered CR7 a two-year deal worth a staggering £211million – which works out to £2m a week.

Pogba set for World Cup call-up

Paul Pogba could be in line for a call up to France’s World Cup squad despite his lack of fitness, reports claim.

The midfielder, 29, suffered a serious knee injury in training over the summer, throwing his World Cup hopes into doubt.

However, he could make a return to action for Juventus by November 10th, just 10 days before the tournament starts.

And despite his relative lack of game time, France coach Didier Deschamps could still call up the midfielder.

According to L’Equipe, Deschamps – who took over as France boss in 2012 – could utilise the full extent of his 26-man squad and bring the stricken Pogba to Qatar due to his “special status” within the team.

Pogba was a key member of the France team which won the 2018 World Cup and made it to the final of the 2016 European Championships.

Man Utd ‘rejected the chance to sign duo’ this summer

Manchester United rejected the chance to sign Christian Pulisic and Memphis Depay during the summer, according to reports.

United endured a manic end to their transfer window as they looked to add fresh recruits for Erik ten Hag’s rebuild project.

But, Fabrizio Romano has revealed that they were offered Depay, 28, on a free transfer from Barcelona, while discussions also took place with Chelsea for Pulisic, 23.

According to Romano, United submitted a loan offer for Pulisic but Chelsea had no intention of allowing the American to leave unless it was with a permanent transfer.

Fixture pile-up for Ten Hag to contend with

In a statement, the Prem said: “Following extensive consultation with clubs, police, local Safety Advisory Groups and other relevant authorities, there was no other option but to postpone the three fixtures.”

The postponements leave League bosses with an additional fixture pile-up to contend with although things would have been even worse if, as had looked likely, the majority of games had bitten the dust.

Instead, with Aston Villa against Southampton and Nottingham Forest versus Fulham staying as Friday night games, there will now be three games on Saturday and two on Sunday.

Kick-off times for the Saturday games at Wolves (12.30), Newcastle (3pm) and Spurs (5.30pm) have not been changed.

More on Felix move to Old Trafford

Felix, who has 22 caps, joined the LaLiga giants from Benfica in 2019 for £113million and has taken time to settle in Spain.

But last season he scored ten goals in his 35 appearances for Diego Simeone's side as has started to demonstrate his undoubted quality.

His suitors are aware that he has a staggering £295m release clause attached to his deal at the Metropolitano Stadium.

The Red Devils were thought to be particularly keen on Felix this summer as doubts lingered over the future at United of his international skipper Cristiano Ronaldo.

The 37-year-old football legend has made it clear he wants to leave and is eyeing up a January move after struggling for game time under new boss Erik ten Hag.

Felix clueless over Man Utd approach

Atletico Madrid star Joao Felix says he did not even know Manchester United were in for him this summer.

Spanish media reported that Red Devils representatives spoke to the creative Portugal forward's agent in a bid to sign him last month.

A Marca article also said Atleti made it clear to United they had no intention of selling the 22-year-old.

And it was reported the Prem giants had a £110m bid rejected.

Now transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has given an update which suggests Felix was kept out of the loop over the dealings.

Romano tweeted: "Joao Felix tells Marca on Manchester United approach during the summer, 'I didn't hear anything… so that was something for the president to deal with'.

"There was never an official bid — just an approach, not even a proposal as Atleti consider Joao untouchable."

Jaap Stam ‘open’ to joining Man Utd

Manchester United legend Jaap Stam has offered himself up to join Erik ten Hag’s coaching staff.

The 67-time Holland international, 50, is currently without a side after being sacked as FC Cincinnati boss a year ago.

Stam has served plenty of time in the dugout with other sides including Reading and Feyenoord.

After being linked with a move to United over the summer, Stam admits he is ready to join should Ten Hag feel the need to ask.

Stam told Tribal Football: “I never spoke to United – no one called me for any reason.

“But that’s how it is in football. When a new coach arrives, he invites his people who he knows and trusts and who can help him in certain ways.

“But like I said before, United is the club I love. I grew there as a person and as a player, they made me stronger, they made me who I am now.

“I have made history with this club and if they need me, if I can help them in any way, I am always at their service.”

Officials ‘hopeful’ for this weekend's fixtures

Some of this weekend’s Premier League fixtures are still at risk of being postponed.

This is due to a lack of police resources ahead of the funeral of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, who passed away last week.

But, officials are still hopeful that a conclusion can be reached.

A National Police Chiefs Council spokesperson said: “We will work with football clubs to try and ensure that, where possible, football fixtures can take place safely when balanced against the requirement to support national events and deliver day-to-day policing.

“This is a unique situation and we are working closely with everyone involved.”

FA confirm fixtures will resume this evening

The FA have confirmed that fixtures across the English football pyramid – including the women's football pyramid – will resume this evening.

However, some matches scheduled to take place are still at risk of being postponed due to policing issues.

An official statement read: "Last weekend, English football united together to honour and remember Her Majesty the Queen.

"We would like to express our thanks and gratitude to everyone across our game for their support and understanding as we paid respect to our long-standing Patron of The Football Association, Queen Elizabeth II.

"After a period of pause and reflection for our national game, we can confirm that fixtures will resume as scheduled, including matches from the Barclays Women's Super League and Barclays Women's Championship, the Emirates FA Cup Second Round Qualifying, Vitality Women's FA Cup, the National League System [NLS], Steps 1-6, including the Vanarama National Leagues, the Women's Football Pyramid [WFP], Tiers 3-7, and all matches across grassroots football in England. Isuzu FA Trophy and FA Youth Cup matches will return this evening.

"All matches held at stadiums are subject to leagues and clubs working with the relevant authorities to stage these fixtures, as usual practice.

"We will be recommending to clubs, leagues and competitions across the country that a minute's silence is observed before matches are played, and that black armbands should be worn where possible.

"All flags at Wembley Stadium and St. George's Park will continue to fly at half-mast this week and over the weekend.

"The FA can also confirm that all scheduled football matches will be postponed on the day of Her Majesty the Queen's funeral on Monday 19 September.

"Our thoughts at this time remain with His Majesty King Charles III, our president, HRH The Prince of Wales, and the whole of the Royal Family."
