“My dad’s funny,” Cyrus told Sang. “He always writes, ‘I’m cryin’.’ That’s it, but in a funny way too. I’ll text him our song, you know how you have a song with somebody. Mine and my dad’s is ‘Is It Raining [At Your House]’ by Vern Gosdin. It says, ‘Is it raining at your house, like it’s raining at mine? Do you miss me like I miss you? Is it cloudy all the time?’ So my dad and I send that to each other when we’re not in the same state or whatever.”
When Billy Ray Cyrus says he’s crying, Noah Cyrus knows he means it
Missing your daughter is a good reason to cry. Noah knows that when Billy Ray says that to her, he really is.
“I’ll send that to him sometimes and he’ll write, ‘Uh oh. I’m cryin’. I love you’ and the whole thing,” she said. “And he really will be crying but it’s just the way he says it is, ‘Uh oh, I’m cryin’.’ And he’ll always write cryin’ and he’ll put the apostrophe in. That was his response and we talked on the phone for a while.”
There was more to the Billy Ray Cyrus voicemail
“Young & Sad” includes a clip of a voicemail Billy Ray left for Noah. She said there’s a reason he was extra emotional.
“Well, we’d been apart,” she said. “I think it would have been different had we been together. I just put it in the record and I sent it to him, I said, ‘I’m putting your voicemail in the record.’”
She also kept some of his message private, just for herself.

“It had been a while since he sent the voicemail,” she said. “The voicemail is not that short. It’s a longer voicemail because my dad can talk. I told him it was going to be in it and I put parts in it that I felt everybody could use to hear, like ‘Keep a smile on your face. Everything’s going to be fine.’ I felt like everybody could hear that. So I put the parts of the voicemail that weren’t just personally to me. So that’s why I added the parts that I did.”
