Sky broadband DOWN: Customers left without access to internet in latest outage

Update: Sky has acknowledged the cause of the issues for hundreds of customers across the country today. Using its customer service account on Twitter, @SkyHelpTeam, the company has revealed that customers in the South East of England and the Isle of Wight are experiencing fibre broadband problems due to a fibre-cable break.

The full statement reads: “We understand from our onsite engineers that the problem has been caused by a fibre-cable break. Repair work is underway and we’ll provide an update on progress soon. We’re sorry for any inconvenience caused.”

There’s no update on those in other areas of the UK, like Manchester – which seems to be particularly badly hit.

Hundreds of Sky customers have been left without access to Sky broadband this morning. According to DownDetector, which tracks mentions across social media platforms to track outages with online platforms, more than 500 Sky customers are reporting issues with their broadband connection in the UK every minute.

The problems started around 6am this morning – around the same time that Virgin Media customers also started to notice issues with their connection.

Sky hasn’t commented on the reported issues yet. Reports of problems with their broadband problems appear to be on the rise. When the reports of the outage are mapped out on the map of the UK, it shows a huge number of problems everywhere – with a huge concentration in London and Manchester.

According to statistics gathered from DownDetector, the most affected areas in the UK are currently Southampton, Nottingham, Bournemouth, Portsmouth, Exeter, London, Gosport, Fareham and Basingstoke. It’s currently unclear why these areas are impacted more severely.

Sky customers have flooded social media to complain about the problems. The official customer service account, @SkyHelpTeam, has started to respond to a number of queries.
