A FULL transcript has emerged of Vince McMahon’s message to WWE employees before releasing a host of wrestlers and staff.
The 74-year-old CEO addressed the company’s financial situation with his workforce on Wednesday morning, admitting cuts had to be made due to the impact of the coronavirus crisis.
A host of high-profile wrestlers and off-screen talent, including the legendary Kurt Angle, were named later in the day on the long-list of those individuals released.
The Covid-19 outbreak has affected a host of sports, and despite still being able to film their weekly episodes of Raw and SmackDown, it has still taken a huge toll on WWE.
Now, according to Fightful, the full speech McMahon gave to his employees 48 hours ago has now been revealed.
In the conference call, he said: “Thank you all for joining me today.
“First and foremost, I hope that you and your families are safe.
“What we’re going through today is unprecedented, and there’s no doubt these are challenging times for everyone.
“Given the adverse effects of coronavirus and the resulting financial recession, WWE, like so many companies, have to decrease operating expenses.”
After WWE announced they were axing staff, they were hit with a backlash from fans.
It emerged that WWE have £400m in the bank and it was claimed the decision to release workers was a choice based on profits rather than a decision made out of necessity.
To end the call, McMahon added: “These are not easy decisions, but reflect the reality of the environment we’re working in today.
“We live in a world of troubled times.
“I’m confident as a company, and most importantly, confident in you as individual employees, will pull through these tough times and come back to work and make life better than it’s ever been. Thank you.”
