Vladimir Coufal 'signs new three-year West Ham contract' after incredible debut season in Premier League

WEST HAM defender Vladimir Coufal has signed a new three-year deal with an option for a further year, according to reports.

The 29-year-old joined the Hammers in the summer of 2020 for a shrewd £5.4million, after being recommended by fan favourite and international team-mate Tomas Soucek.

According to The Athletic's Roshane Thomas, the steely right-back has been rewarded for his incredible debut season with a new deal.

Coufal was a standout performer for West Ham last term, keeping ten clean sheets, assisting seven, and helping the Hammers finish sixth in the Premier League.

Much like his pal Soucek, Coufal quickly became a fan favourite in east London.

Soucek predicted Coufal would be an instant hit with the fans last summer, citing his 'qualities that are needed to play in the Premier League'.

He said: "I am looking forward to seeing him play for West Ham, because I think he has all of the qualities that are needed to play in the Premier League.

"He is very strong, plays with intensity and is very consistent. He also likes to run a lot, like me, because he is up and down on the right side, maybe 11-12km minimum every match. He is a very modern right-back.

“Vladimir is also a very good guy, with a nice character – I’m sure he will fit in very well in the changing room and everyone here will like him.

"It is good for him that I am here, so I can help him settle in to life here, but it is also good for me to have him here. It is nice for our wives, for our young children, as we know each other well.

“I think the West Ham fans will love Vladimir and he will feel connected to them.

"His style of play is very fast and intense and he will give 100 per cent every single minute for this club.”

Coufal is yet to miss a league game through injury for the Hammers, being involved in every matchday squad since his arrival.

But he is a doubt for Sunday's London Derby against league newcomers Brentford.

Boss David Moyes said: "Coufal has a chance. I am not sure about Ryan Fredericks. They're both not bad and there's a chance they could both be available.”
