Mark Wahlberg Talks His First Netflix Movie 'Spenser Confidential'

Actor says most studios would have the confidence to make this “character driven, throwback buddy comedy”

Super Bowl LIII, the big number 53, is upon us, and fans all over the country will tune in to see the New England Patriots take on the Los Angeles Rams. If you’re rooting for the Patriots this weekend, here’s a rundown of the good, famous company you’ll be in when you do. And if you’re a Rams fan, here’s a quick celebrity enemies list so you can rub it in their faces on Twitter.

  • Gisele Bündchen

It’d be a lot more interesting if the Brazilian supermodel who had also married Patriots Quarterback Tom Brady in fact was not a Patriots fan. Unfortunately, and predictably, she is.

  • Mark Wahlberg

It’s crazy obvious, right? Everyone knows about Marky Mark’s Boston background. Wahlberg shows up for plenty of games, sitting on the sidelines or hanging out with Patriots owner Robert Kraft. He’s also pals with Tom Brady, who appeared on Wahlberg’s show “Entourage.”

  • Ben Affleck

Let’s keep right on going with “Famous Massachusetts natives who do that accent in movies.” Batfleck, who was born in California but grew up in Cambridge, Mass., somewhat angrily defended Tom Brady over that whole “Deflategate” scandal. He takes the Patriots pretty seriously.

  • Matt Damon

Matt “How do you like them apples” Damon is also a Massachusetts native, and a big-time Patriots guy. He also talked about Deflategate on TV like Affleck, but with a bit more chill. Still, Damon’s known to wear Pats gear, hang out at games, and get photographed wearing Super Bowl rings.

  • Lea Michele

Although she’s a New Yorker, singer and star of “Scream Queens” and “Glee” Lea Michele has said she’s always been a Patriots fan. Tom Brady might have something to do with it, as might the team’s many championship wins.

  • Aly Raisman

The Olympic gymnast and gold medalist is Boston born and raised. On Jan. 20, Raisman tweeted her support when the Patriots beat the Kansas City Chiefs to make it to the Super Bowl. “Gooooooo Pats!!!! Unbelievable. #BOSTON #GOAT” she wrote.

  • Elton John

The Patriots’ logo might call up images of the Colonies’ revolt against the crown, but England-born Sir Elton doesn’t let it keep him from cheering for the Pats. John is friends with owner Robert Kraft, and in 2009 when the Pats played the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at London’s Wembley Stadium, the Patriots made him honorary team captain.

  • Elizabeth Banks

Another native of Massachusetts, Banks watched her Patriots defeat the Seahawks in Super Bowl 49 from the celebrity box at University of Phoenix Stadium in Arizona. You can often track her thoughts on the Patriots on Twitter, where she regularly tweets during games.

  • Kofi Kingston

WWE star and New Day tag team member Kingston was born in Ghana, but moved to Boston in his youth. He’s a big Patriots fan, and he told Patriots.com he gets up to some football-themed trash-talking during the season. That might be a change of pace from the regular trash-talking wrestlers get up to all the time.

  • Paul Pierce

Former Los Angeles Clippers forward Pierce started his NBA career with the Boston Celtics. He’s still part of the Patriots Nation, and took to Twitter to show off the Patriots gear he was sporting during the AFC Championship game in January 2017.

  • Steven Tyler

Aerosmith is a Boston band, and Steven Tyler is a Patriots fan. The singer has performed a couple of national anthems at Patriots games, in 1999 and again at the 2012 AFC Championship game, where he famously wore a sparkly Patriots scarf.

  • Maria Menounos

Former “Extra” host Menounos is a well-known Patriots fan. Her dedication sometimes costs, though: She lost a bet on the Pats with “Extra” correspondent AJ Calloway when the New York Giants defeated them in Super Bowl 46. The punishment was appearing on TV in a Giants bikini.

  • Conan O’Brien

Conan’s from Boston, and he attended Harvard. After four Super Bowl wins, Conan finally declared himself a Patriots fan in a video for the NFL in the run up to Super Bowl 49. He’s actually a lifelong fan of the team, and before Super Bowl 51 pitted the Falcons against the Pats on his show — playing video games.

  • Chris Evans

Yup, Captain America is, somewhat fittingly at least from a branding standpoint, a Patriots fan. Evans, a Boston native, famously made a bet with fellow Marvel alumnus Chris Pratt when Evans’ Patriots took on Pratt’s Seattle Seahawks in Super Bowl 49. Loser had to visit a children’s charity in the winner’s city dressed in their Marvel universe costume. Evans won, but both visited kids at Boston’s Christopher’s Haven, a charity for kids battling cancer.

  • Michael Chiklis

Last year, “The Shield” and “Gotham” actor Chiklis introduced a new member of his family: Tom Brady. That was the name he gave his new pug, just in time for the 2017 Super Bowl.

  • Jon Bon Jovi

Though he’s from New Jersey, Bon Jovi has grown to become something of a Patriots superfan over the years. He even gave the team permission to use his band’s song, “This Is Our House,” during games.

  • Julie Chen Moonves

Though she’d rather watch the games from the comfort of her own home, Chen admits to a personal connection to the Patriots. “I’m a big Tom Brady fan. Robert Kraft is a personal friend of ours — so there’s also that, you know. I have to be honest.”

    Getty Images

  • John Krasinski

Although Jim Halpert may have been an Eagles fan, this Boston native bleeds red, white and blue. “It’s fun to be from a place that has so much and legendary sort of sports stories to tell my daughter one day very soon.” He even appeared alongside Matt Damon, Ben Affleck and Chris Evans in a Jimmy Kimmel skit lampooning Deflate-gate.

    Getty Images

  • Mindy Kaling

This “Office” and “Mindy Project” alum let her support be known after the Patriots defeated the Jaguars in the AFC Championship. “Very excited people in this household regarding the outcome of the football game @Patriots #SuperBowl.”

    Getty Images

  • John Cena

Cena was bummed that his busy WWE schedule kept him from staying in Houston for Super Bowl LI. “The fact that the Patriots are consistently great, amidst all the controversy…they just always play really well. They’re a down-to-business team. Not a lot of flash, not a lot of flare. The Belichick postgame press conference pretty much says it all. I like that, because the rest of the league hates it.”

Rep. Matt Gaetz wears gas mask in Congress during coronavirus funding vote

WASHINGTON — Maybe he’s angling for a job on President Trump’s coronavirus taskforce?

Florida GOP Rep. Matt Gaetz turned heads on Capitol Hill on Wednesday, donning an enormous gas mask on the House floor during a vote on the coronavirus funding bill.

The 37-year-old lawmaker shared a photo of himself wearing the bio-hazard mask while reviewing an $8.3 billion emergency spending bill to confront the health outbreak.

The virus has killed 11 Americans and more than 3,000 people worldwide.

“Reviewing the coronavirus supplemental appropriation and preparing to go vote,” Gaetz tweeted.

Democrat Rep. Jim Himes of Connecticut got in on the joke, sharing a photo of Gaetz with the caption: “You won’t believe the shoes Matt Gaetz is wearing today.”

It’s unclear what kind of statement the congressman was trying to convey by wearing the face covering.

Gaetz’s office did not respond to request for comment.

Boots stops payments using Advantage Cards after crooks tried to hack accounts using stolen details – The Sun

BOOTS has suspended Advantage Card payments after scammers tried to hack into customers' accounts using details stolen from other sites.

It means customers won't be able to pay for products using their points while the issue is dealt with.

The suspension comes after Boots spotted "unusual" activity on Advantage Card accounts with the aim of accessing and spending the points.

Boots told The Sun the issue affected less than 1 per cent of the company's 14.4million active Advantage Card users – 144,000 people.

It insisted that no credit card information had been accessed, and said hackers tried to access accounts using details stolen from other sites.

Boots is currently writing to affected customers, and said it'll replace any points that have been used by fraudsters.

Customers can still earn points when making purchases, but Boots couldn't confirm when shoppers will be able to spend their points again.

The Boots Advantage Card scheme lets shoppers collect four points for every £1 spent, and each point is worth 1p.

For example, a card with 200 points could be used to pay for an item worth £2 both in-store or online.

Boots said in a statement: "Our customers' safety and security online is very important to us.

"We can confirm we are writing to a small number of our customers to tell them that we have seen fraudulent attempts to access boots.com accounts.

"These attempts can be successful if people use the same email and password details on multiple accounts.

"We would like to reassure our customers that these details were not obtained from Boots.

"As an extra precaution we have temporarily stopped payment by Boots Advantage Card points on boots.com or in store."

So-called "password stuffing" happens when crooks access a list of stolen usernames or email addresses and passwords from a previous data breach.

They then try to log in to a different website, hoping to get a match.

To avoid problems, it's worth having different passwords for different websites.

The news comes just a few days after Tesco blocked 620,000 Clubcard accounts as scammers tried to steal points.

The supermarket said that a database of stolen usernames and passwords from other platforms had been tried out on its site.

At the end of last year, Morrisons shoppers were "fuming" after having hundreds of pounds worth points stolen from their More loyalty accounts.

Wilko to slash sick pay for 21,000 workers amid coronavirus fears for employees – The Sun

WILKO is reducing sick pay for 21,000 shop and warehouse workers as the coronavirus continues to spread across the globe.

From April 1, the retailer is withdrawing sick pay for all workers after their second absence.

Read our coronavirus live blog for all the latest news and updates

The news comes as employers are under pressure to pay sick leave to staff affected by the coronavirus.

This is to stop employees who've been infected by the deadly bug coming into work because they want to get paid.

Yesterday, Prime Minister Boris Johnson confirmed that anyone who has to self-isolate over coronavirus will get statutory sick pay from day one.

They previously had to wait four days to claim funding help, but you still need to earn at least £118 a week to qualify.

Wilko has confirmed it'll treat coronavirus absences as an "exceptional circumstance", and those who are seriously ill will keep their sick pay.

For others, the new rules mean that if you're ill more than once in a year, you won't be paid for it beyond the statutory minimum.

While if you've working at Wilko for less than a year, you're not entitled to any sick pay at all.

The retailer said it's changing its policy to reduce its "high sickness absence levels" and to bring them in line with its competitors.

It told The Sun it's sent briefings to team leaders recently so they can inform their staff members.

But GMB Union says the move will push hard-working employees into poverty.

Gary Carter, national officer of GMB, said: "Picking a fight with your workforce by imposing draconian cuts to sick pay is no way for a modern employer to act.

"This will have a negative impact on both the business, while hard-working employees will be pushed into poverty because they won’t be able to pay their bills if they are sick.

"Other workers will be forced to come into stores when sick because Wilko has taken away their sick pay."

A spokesperson for Wilko told The Sun: “We have been a family friendly company for 90 years and we remain so.

“We have a generous company sick pay policy which is over and above the market.

"In some areas of our business, absence levels are double that of the industry standard and this is a real concern for us.

“Our plan is to take steps to bring our company sick pay into line with the industry standard for retail to be competitive in the marketplace for our customers.

“This is not related in any way to the Covid-19 outbreak.

"As a responsible business we are following Public Health England advice, should any team members need time off as a result of Covid-19, they will be paid company sick pay as an exceptional circumstance."

Last year, Wilko workers announced strike action in response to a row over “brutal” weekend rotas.

While in October, "12,000 Asda staff faced the sack" over new contracts where they lose paid breaks.

Just last week, Tesco said it plans to axe 1,800 jobs as it cuts back on in-store bakeries.

Ray J Defends Ex Kim Kardashian After She’s Accused Of Cultural Appropriation: I Liked Her ‘Braids’

Ray J talked about the controversy his ex-girlfriend Kim Kardashian recently caused for wearing braids in her hair when he sat down for a new interview and he actually complimented the look.

Ray J, 39, thinks the cultural appropriation accusations about his ex Kim Kardashian, 39, and her new braids hairstyle is wrong. The rapper, who dated Kim from 2005-2007, appeared on The Talk with his older sister Brandy, 41, for an interview and weighed in on the controversy surrounding the Keeping Up with the Kardashians star after she debuted long braids in her hair on social media on Mar. 2.

“I got nothing but respect. I just think that, if you are paying homage to another culture by you know, rocking the braids, I think it’s a compliment,” he told the hosts of the talk show. “It should be looked at, it’s going global, you know. And, I think that when you get up and you feel good and you look good and other people say, ‘hey, I want to look like that,’ I want to feel good… it should be a compliment and a plus.”

Before Ray J said his comments, Brandy, who was wearing braids in her own hair during the show, expressed her opinion and admitted she thinks the public’s criticism of Kim’s new hairstyle is taking it a bit too far. “I don’t think that she’s guilty. I definitely believe in that, but I think it’s reaching a little bit,” says Brandy. “I mean, it’s great, I love braids,” she said. “I think everybody should have braids, but I think we’re going too far with that with her.”

The accusations against Kim first started when she showed off long braids at her husband Kanye West‘s Yeezy fashion show in Paris, France on Mar. 2. The hairstyle matched her six-year-old daughter North‘s hair but some followers were not happy about it and responded to a pic she posted of the look on Instagram. “You think she’d learn. Put your hair up in a high pony and go to the fashion show like everyone else,” one follower responded while another wrote, “cultural appropriation season 67.” “YOU  ARE  NOT  BLACK ,” a third responded.

This isn’t the first time Kim caused controversy over braids. She also got attention for wearing braids at the MTV Movie & TV Awards in June 2018. She defended herself in an interview with Bustle shortly after the headline-making drama and admitted she wore the look because North asked her to. “I actually didn’t see backlash. I actually did that look because North said she wanted braids and asked if I would do them with her,” she said. “So we braided her hair and then we braided my hair.”

A 21-year search for extraterrestrial life has ended without finding any aliens

Volunteers have spent the past two decades helping scientists to search for alien civilisations.

Now this ambitious crowdsourced effort has ended – but we’re still no closer to finding extraterrestrial life.

For 21 years, the University of California, Berkeley, has run a project called [email protected] which allowed ordinary people to use their computer’s processing power to help scan deep space in search of aliens.

But this project has now been closed down without managing to answer the question of the universe is teeming with life or depressingly barren.

On Twitter, UC Berkeley’s SETI (search for extraterrestrial intelligence) department wrote: ‘Thanks to the many volunteers who have helped crunch data for [email protected] in the last two decades.

‘On March 31, the project will stop sending out new work to users, but this is not the end of public engagement in SETI research.

Life forms, whether intelligent or not, can produce detectable indicators such as large amounts of oxygen, smaller amounts of methane, and a variety of other chemicals, the experts said.

MORE: Extraterrestrial life is out there and SETI is busy looking for it

So in addition, scientists are also developing computer models to simulate extraterrestrial environments that can help support future searches for habitable planets and life beyond the solar system.

Victoria Meadows, principal investigator for Nasa’s Virtual Planetary Laboratory at the University of Washington, which studies to detect exoplanetary habitability, said: ‘Upcoming telescopes in space and on the ground will have the capability to observe the atmospheres of Earth-sized planets orbiting nearby cool stars, so it’s important to understand how best to recognise signs of habitability and life on these planets.

‘These computer models will help us determine whether an observed planet is more or less likely to support life.’

SETI’s Breakthrough Listen Initiative, which launched in 2015 to ‘listen’ for signals of alien life, released nearly two petabytes of data from the most comprehensive survey yet of radio emissions from the plane of the Milky Way galaxy and the region around its central black hole.

The organisation is now inviting the public to search the data, gathered from various telescopes around the world, and look for signals from intelligent civilisations.

MORE: Confirmation of alien life ‘now seems inevitable’ claims researcher

Yuri Milner, an entrepreneur and founder of the Breakthrough initiative, said: ‘For the whole of human history, we had a limited amount of data to search for life beyond Earth.

‘So, all we could do was speculate.

‘Now, as we are getting a lot of data, we can do real science and, with making this data available to general public, so can anyone who wants to know the answer to this deep question.’

The initiatives and strategies in expanding the search for extraterrestrial life were presented at the the annual meeting of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) in Seattle.

Alton Towers waterpark left mum feeling dizzy and ‘like she’d swallowed fire’

A mum who visited Alton Towers' water park with her toddler felt like she had "swallowed fire" as guests complained of irritation to their eyes and throats.

Sammi Bristow was visiting the Splash Landings attraction on Monday, March 2, with her ex partner, Joe, and their son, Kye, to celebrate the toddler's second birthday.

But what was supposed to be a fun family day out ended abruptly when Ms Bristow and other guests fell ill.

The 31-year-old said: "I booked the day off work and we went to Splash Landings.

"We were hoping to make a day of it and get some food.

"We got there at 10am and at about 12.15pm we were getting out of the pool to get the little one some dinner.

"All of a sudden, I felt really dizzy and sick and my throat was burning so much I desperately needed a drink.

"It felt like I was swallowing fire.

"It smelt [the venue] a bit like turps, as if someone had been painting.

"The smell was awful. I turned to Joe and said 'we need to go home – I don't feel right'.

"When I was getting ready to leave, I saw some people speaking to lifeguards, but didn’t think anything of it.

"I just felt that I was coming down with something.

"But then people were being told to get out of the pool."

Ms Bristow, who is a care assistant, said she "thought she was going to be sick" all the way home.

She said: "I got home and went straight to bed.

"I didn't even know anything had gone on until the evening, when my phone started going mad.

"People had seen I tagged myself at Splash Landings on Facebook , so they were worried about us.

"I didn’t have any eye irritation like other people, but I was wearing my glasses, so I don’t know if that helped.

"Luckily, Kye was okay, but I was really worried he was going to get ill in the night.

"If Kye had been ill I'd have been a lot more angry and upset, but he seemed okay and had a nice time while we were there."

Ms Bristow, who lives in Stretton said the illness ruined her day and cut her son's birthday short.

She said: "I feel better now but I still don’t feel 100 per cent.

"I'm going to give it until tomorrow night and if I'm still not feeling right I'm going to go to the doctors. I just feel lousy.

"It ruined my day because I had so much to do in preparation for Kye's birthday and it wrote me off.

"His birthday was cut short because I wasn’t feeling well.

"I spoke to someone from Alton Towers on Tuesday night and they still didn’t know what caused it."

A spokesman for Alton Towers apologised to anyone affected by the problem on Monday.

She said: "Unfortunately, the water park will remain closed today and tomorrow, Thursday, March 5.

"For guests staying in our hotels, we are opening rides and attractions in the Mutiny Bay area of the theme park, including Sharkbait Reef by SeaLife.

"Additional entertainment will also be offered in CBeebies Land Hotel.

"Day guests with pre-booked tickets for the water park on these dates will be offered a return ticket or refund.

"We apologise to our guests for any inconvenience this may cause."

Towers bosses said earlier today the cause of the incident was still being investigated.

Kim Kardashian to Meet Donald Trump to Discuss Justice Reform

The ‘Keeping Up with the Kardashians’ star is expected to visit the White House with ex-prisoners Tynice Nichole Hall, Crystal Munoz, and Judith Negron.

AceShowbizKim Kardashian will meet with U.S. President Donald Trump on Wednesday, March 4, 2020 to discuss criminal justice reform accompanied by newly freed ex-prisoners.

The “Keeping Up with the Kardashians” star has been active in advocating for a reassessment of the current criminal justice system in the U.S., and notably worked on obtaining a commutation for Alice Johnson – a 63-year-old great-grandmother serving a life sentence for a first-time drug offence.

Johnson will attend the White House meeting alongside Kim and freed ex-prisoners Tynice Nichole Hall, Crystal Munoz, and Judith Negron.

The meeting comes after Trump announced a wave of commutations and pardons last month, including for former Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich and former New York City police commissioner Bernard Kerik. He has also touted the First Step Act, which aims to improve rehabilitation programs for former prisoners.

Kim previously stated she wants her legal work to make a real difference in the world, especially as she raises her boys Saint, four, and nine-month-old Psalm with husband Kanye West.

“When you become a mum, you become so protective,” she explained in an interview on U.S. breakfast show “Today” last year.

“You want to, hopefully, make their world the most perfect place ever. And ours obviously isn’t. And I definitely see how, especially, like, black men, are treated in this country, still differently.”

The reality TV star will also be the subject of an upcoming Netflix documentary entitled “Kim Kardashian West: The Justice Project“, which is set to debut in April.
