Around the World in 80 Days viewers call out baffling plot hole in BBC drama

BBC's Around the World in 80 Days startled viewers during Sunday's (January 9, 2022) episode of the period drama.

Fans took to Twitter after noticing that Phileas Fogg and his accomplices always look fresh despite one major detail.

Despite thoroughly enjoying the series, BBC viewers questioned a major plot hole following Sunday's (January 9, 2021) episode.

Most swarmed over to Twitter to point out that David Tenant's Phileas Fogg appears washed, wearing freshly ironed clothing despite having little money or room in his suitcase for clothes.

Viewers have made the same observation about the protagonist's partners, journalist Abigail Fix (Leonie Benesch) and valet Passepartout (Ibrahim Koma).

"The most astonishing thing about #AroundtheWorldin80Days is that the writers expect us to believe that all three characters have somehow managed to fit six changes of correct Victorian clothing (each piece perfectly clean and pressed) in two duffle bags", one Twitter user commented.

Another person followed up with: "where do all these new and clean clothes keep coming from in #AroundtheWorldin80Days?"

"Thought he lost his bags and clothes, where did the tailored dinner suit come from?", complained a third viewer.

Thankfully for BBC One, other viewers were too invested in the plot to get distracted by the characters' wardrobes and took to social media to express their satisfaction after the Sunday's instalment of the show.

"Continuing to love #AroundtheWorldin80Days. Every scene is a treat", wrote an enthusiastic Twitter user.

"#AroundtheWorldin80Days beautiful, sumptuous settings and fabulous performances. Best thing on the BBC in ages", added another.

A third chimed in: "great acting, great scenery and perfect January tonic."

Based on Jules Verne's novel of the same name, Around the World in 80 Days premiered on Boxing Day (December 26, 2021) on BBC One.

The show revolves around Phileas Fogg who, after making a £20,000 wager with a member of the prestigious Reform Club, sets out on going around the world in just 80 days.

He is joined by journalist Abigail Fix and his valet Passepartout in his quest.

David Tennant, Ibrahim Koma and Leonie Benesch are joined by Anthony Flanagan, Peter Sullivan and Jason Watkins.

Around the World in 80 Days airs weekly on Sundays at 6:10pm.
