Casualty spoilers: Ruby struggles to cope with work and baby duties

Ruby (Maddy Hill) is barely coping with the demands of looking after a young baby in tonight’s Casualty – particularly as she’s grieving for Violette, and trying to do her job at the same time. Her mother, Lavender (Sian Webber), comes to Holby to help with the baby but she’s not convinced that Ruby is up to the task of looking after Harmony. In return, Ruby lashes out at her mother, accusing her of being partly to blame for Violette’s death.

Ruby and Lev (Uriel Emil) are called to a woman who’s been attacked at a demonstration, and as Ruby gets involved in trying to work out who was responsible she ignores calls from Harmony’s childminder. Is Ruby really cut out for parenthood?

Jade (Gabriella Leon) is standing by Marty (Shaheen Jafargholi) and covers for him with Charlie (Derek Thompson) when he’s late for a shift yet again. A patient makes Jade begin to feel that Marty is using her, and when he goes missing during the shift her patience finally snaps.

Archie (Genesis Lynea) gets not one, but two job offers and spends most of the episode trying to decide what to do. Eye specialist Megan (Emily Woof) wants Archie to come to Sudan and work alongside her in a clinic and Archie is sorely tempted.

When Connie (Amanda Mealing) finds out about this she makes a counter offer – there’s a consultant post coming up and she encourages Archie to apply. A confused Archie asks Will (Jack Nolan) for his advice, but it’s not long before something happens to make her reach a decision. Is Archie ready to turn her back on the ED?

Meanwhile the staff have to deal with the usual assortment of patients, including a vile racist woman and a man who’s busy ticking off things on his bucket list before he dies – if he doesn’t wear his best friend out in the process first.
