Get rid of loathsome and reviled Phillip Schofield says Dan Wootton

Dan Wootton mocks Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield

Recently, ITV viewers saw Phillip Schofield take an extended break from his hosting duties to deal with a family matter.

The 61-year-old’s prolonged absence saw him leave at the start of March and return to the daytime show on Monday this week.

During his time off, his regular co-host Holly Willoughby fronted This Morning alongside the likes of Joel Dommett and Alison Hammond, who presents the show each Friday.

However, GB News host Dan Wootton has called for Alison to permanently replace Phil as he slammed the presenter after working alongside him at ITV for over a decade.

In his latest DailyMail column, the columnist questioned: “Why do ITV persist with the loathsome Phillip Schofield when they have the adorable and talented Alison Hammond waiting in the wings? Holly deserves a new This Morning partner.”

Within his piece, Dan claims Phil tried to get him pulled off air multiple times along with sending him abusive Twitter messages.

He fumed: “Despite being one of the longest serving and highest paid stars at the network, secured with a prized golden handcuffs deal, in my experience Phillip Schofield is also the most reviled.

“When I speak to many household name ITV presenters they don’t have a good word to say about the bloke who viewers know affectionately as Schofe.”

Despite working at ITV for many years, Dan left the broadcaster for good in November 2019 and has fronted his own show on GB News since 2021.

Touching on other well-known faces who have left the station to join channels such as TalkTV, Dan expressed ITV constantly spares Phillip from being axed.

He continued: “For some reason, in my experience, ITV bosses always found excuses for the way Schofield treats people, even as they were prepared to throw the likes of fellow ITV Daytime stars Piers Morgan and Jeremy Kyle under the bus.”

Stating Alison Hammond is the complete opposite of Phil, Dan revealed the star is loved by everyone at ITV from the executives, the producers and other presenters.

The 48-year-old first joined This Morning back in 2003 as she’d regularly be informing viewers about the latest competitions.

However, over the years she’s worked her way up the ranks and now hosts the show every Friday with Dermot O’Leary.

Calling her a national treasure, Dan commented ITV should put Alison in the forefront with Holly instead of Phil.

He said: “They (ITV) are now faced with a very real predicament.

“Give Alison the top job or risk losing her to the BBC and Channel 4, who recently signed the host to front the Baftas and Great British Bake Off respectively in two massive deals.

“The obvious solution is to politely part ways with Phillip. Alison could then be paired with Holly Willoughby in a mega partnership bringing the two most popular female presenters on British television together.”

This Morning continues weekdays on ITV from 10am
