Harley Quinn boss stands his ground after dividing viewers with dig at ‘toxic DC fandom’ – The Sun

HARLEY Quinn boss Patrick Schumacker has stood his ground over his dig at "toxic DC fandom" on the series.

The showrunner used a live Q&A session to explain his reasons behind including the much-discussed Synder Cut joke.

The adult animated TV series recently received its UK premiere on E4, with Kaley Cuoco from The Big Bang Theory voicing the title comic book villain.

Patrick joined fellow showrunner Justin Halpern to answer questions from fans, in particular about a scene in season two, episode five, where two fanboy critics accuse Harley Quinn of 'virtue signalling', with one of them wearing a 'Release the Synder Cut' t-shirt.

Despite admitting his 'cold feet' over the scene, he admitted he was pleased it made the cut.

"Honestly, I put the shirts in there as an internal joke, and assumed those would never make it into the final cut," said Patrick.

"Ultimately these guys were comedic to me because of how deep their toxic fandom ran. And I don’t think he’s representative of all the Snyder Cut enthusiasts at all.

"In truth, I had cold feet about keeping the shirts but I’m glad we did at the end of the day, and the Snyder Cut fans’ response has been outstanding. Such great sports!"

The animated show has already shown it's not afraid to take on hallowed DC Comics characters – and its fans – by killing off established favourites like Penguin and Mr Freeze.

But for some, this reference to the hallowed full length version the Justice League film by Zack Snyder was a step too far.

There is a strong movement amongst comic fans to release Snyder's entire three hour plus vision of the 2017 after he was forced to step down as director during post production following the suicide of his daughter.

UK viewers are yet to watch the entire first series of Harley Quinn but its star has already teased a 'lesbian romp' between Quinn and Poison Ivy.

The second series sees Harley and her BFF Poison Ivy become more than friends, and appearing on US chat show Conan via video link, Kaley couldn't help but make a crude joke about their relationship.

The 34-year-old quipped: "Let me put it this way: Harley’s gonna need some calamine lotion."
