Hollyoaks star Kieron Richardson reveals he's 'excited' for Ste's return

Ste Hay (Kieron Richardson) departed the eponymous village of Hollyoaks last year following the climax of the far-right storyline, as the character resolved to get away for a while and clear his head, but his return will seemingly be a little bit longer than expected, as production of the soap had to shut down amid the Coronavirus pandemic.

Prior to his departure, Ste was radicalised by far-right extremists Jonny Baxter (Ray Quinn) and Stuart Sumner (Chris Simmons), with ultimately took him down a dark path.

However, with the help of his family and friends — not to mention Sid (Billy Price) — he was able to see the error in his ways, and things came to a head during a spectacular clifftop showdown.

Following this, the character decided to take some time away from the village, before returning to build bridges with those he’d wronged.

With Hollyoaks having had to shut down production amid the Coronavirus pandemic, viewers will have to wait a little bit longer before Ste returns to our screens.

Speaking to Metro.co.uk, actor Kieron said: ‘Because of the situation at the moment, I haven’t had an opportunity to sit down with the bosses or the writers or anybody to ask what Ste’s next chapter is.’

‘I had a brief chat when we filmed Hollyoaks Favourites with the costume department, and they showed me lots of new tracksuits that they’ve got for Ste, so I’m excited to get the trainers and the tracksuit on again!’

Since leaving the Channel 4 soap, Kieron toured in a stage production of Band Of Gold — an adaptation of the classic ITV drama series from the ’90s.

Speaking about this, Kieron said: ‘We literally toured the country for the past six-and-a-bit months and then it all ended due to COVID-19.

Viewers will have the opportunity to see Kieron — along with former Hollyoaks star Jorgie Porter — on their screens in the coming weeks, as he hosts Hollyoaks Favourites, which will allow viewers to re-watch some of their favourite episodes of the Channel 4 soap amid the Coronavirus pandemic.

He said: ‘I raced straight to Hollyoaks to film Hollyoaks Favourites, so at least I got an opportunity to be in the building, even if it was short-lived. It was nice to go back home!

‘I’m super excited to be a part of it! Alongside Jorgie Porter, as we’re bezzy friends in real life, which is quite nice.’

Hollyoaks airs Monday and Tuesday at 7pm on E4.
