Lothario Ken Barlow (William Roache) has a life of relationship experience – and big mistakes too.
The Coronation Street legend knows more than anyone what it’s like to make mistakes with infidelity, but he is about to give Adam (Sam Robertson) food for thought, as a spoiler video confirms.
In scenes next week, Adam is still hurting from Sarah’s (Tina O’Brien) confession that she had slept with Damon Hay (Ciaran Griffiths), and viewers have seen him walk out, leaving his wedding ring behind.
Sarah is fearful that her marriage is over for good, but, as Ken soon clocks, Adam loves her as much as ever.
In a sage chat in the Rovers, Ken assures his grandson that this is all that matters in a relationship.
He goes on to reflect on his own somewhat turbulent marriage to Deirdre. He admits that it was laden with cheating and heartache, but adds that they always rode the waves together.
Fondly, he recalls being with Deirdre as the happiest time of his life, even when he didn’t show it when he was eyeing up Wendy flamin’ Crozier or jumping on the first barge he saw.
Adam asks if he means he should get back with Sarah, with Ken reasoning that he doesn’t really have a choice if they’re meant to be.
The chat clearly helps Adam get a few things right in his head, but the future is going to be difficult.
Even if Adam and Sarah do reunite, it won’t be easy for Adam to trust her again, especially as he goes on to accuse her of being up to no good in a situation that turns out to be totally innocent.
Tina O’Brien recently confided to us that there remains a fear in Sarah that she has ruined everything forever.
‘I think 10 out of 10, she’s off the scale scared that the marriage will end!’ she said.
‘The guilt, the feeling of disgust at herself and also the realisation that she could potentially have ruined everything are just overwhelming because she does still really want to be with Adam.’
It’s not just Adam who is in two minds over reconciling with Sarah – some fans might take a bit of persuading too.
‘Some of the comments I’ve been getting about her behaviour are awful!’, Tina continued.
‘They think her behaviour is disgraceful but then there are others saying that this is real life, affairs/flings they happen.
‘It’s important to show that yes Sarah is usually very well behaved, yes she is happy but this man has just got under her skin.
‘We’re seeing her make bad decisions that aren’t necessarily the best for her but she’s still making them so yeah, it’s really interesting to play.’
