Production of the fifth season of Lucifer has been stalled amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. Thankfully, fans of the popular Netflix fantasy series, originally on Fox, have amassed some revealing clues and may have confirmed what will happen in the opening episodes.
Fans were stunned last year when Lucifer Morningstar (played by Tom Ellis) seemed to accept the sinister prophecy, kissing his first love Chloe (Lauren German) and reclaiming his throne in Hell.
The last image of the season, Tom Ellis back in the underworld where the Devil apparently belongs, was a gripping conclusion, made even more enticing by the lengthy break that has followed the season four finale.
Sadly, production on the fifth season has been postponed by the coronavirus outbreak, with the Netflix cast and crew forced into lockdown just before filming of the finale was set to begin.
Rumours are abound suggesting Netflix is looking into renewing Lucifer for a sixth season, but for now the upcoming instalment is expected to be the show’s last.

In the meantime, devoted viewers have speculated how the next season will begin, now Lucifer has been chased back to his hellish domain.
Many fans have speculated season five will feature the death of a major supporting character, whether that be Chloe, Lucifer’s brother Amenadiel (D.B. Woodside) or forensic specialist Ella (Aimee Garcia).
Mild spoilers ahead – some leaked behind-the-scenes photos have teased an epic season opener, with some scenes set in Hell featuring some familiar faces.
Some fans have taken to Reddit to discuss the likelihood of Lucifer’s human rival, Dan Espinoza (Kevin Alejandro), meeting a grisly end in the fifth season.
When one Redditor prompted fans who they believed would perish in the new season, another commented: “Pretty sure it’s Dan. That gives him a way to be with Charlotte, which isn’t a bad thing for him.”
Also known as Detective Douche, Dan is another LAPD detective who occasionally works alongside Chloe, his ex-wife and mother of their daughter, Trixie (Scarlett Estevez).
As of the conclusion of season four, Dan’s hatred for Lucifer has intensified following the death of Charlotte Richards (Tricia Helfer), for which he blames Chloe’s devilish partner.
Dan and Charlotte had a brief relationship before her death, once her mortal body had been vacated by Lucifer’s mother, who possessed the defense attorney in season two in order to walk amongst the humans.

Now Charlotte has found herself back in Lucifer’s domain, Dan’s death wouldn’t be quite so tragic, as it would give him a way to reunite with his lost love.
One more fan commented Dan’s death would be the perfect conclusion to the character’s arc, as the despondent detective has only become more unlikable as the series has progressed.
They added: “That would be a genius play by the writers. Make Dan a hated character in season four, send him to Hell and reveal Lucifer is the devil by doing so.
“Then Lucifer brings him back and after that he goes to heaven with Charlotte.”
- Lucifer season 5 release date: Has the series been pushed back?
Now Chloe knows the truth, fans have been praying the fan favourite pairing will get their happy ending before the series wraps up for good.
Only a select lucky few of Lucifer’s mortal friends have discovered his true demonic identity, so Dan’s death could be the ideal way to reveal his ‘Devil Face’ to one of his least favourite people.
Of course, just because Dan is heavily tipped to die in the season opener doesn’t necessarily mean Lucifer can’t bring him back to fight another day.
Lucifer season five will be released on Netflix soon.
