Laurel Thomas (Charlotte Bellamy) was determined to scare son Arthur (Alfie Clarke) into behaving in Emmerdale, but little did she know that — in regards to the cabinet incident with Archie Breckle (Kai Assi) — he was actually innocent, but she came to realise just that during tonight’s instalment, as the truth came to light in an explosive fashion.
Having come to believe her son was in need of a good talking to from the police, PC Swirling arrived during tonight’s instalment, and Arthur was horrified.
Terrified of going to prison, the young boy admitted to causing the fire, but he revealed his intentions weren’t to hurt anyone, but rather he wanted to get Archie into trouble for something he didn’t do — much like Archie had done to him when he turned the tables several months back.
However, Laurel and Swirling refused to believe he was innocent, which just made Arthur all the more upset.
Meanwhile, Archie got wind that the police had arrived to speak to Arthur, and therefore he decided it was time to reveal the truth about the cabinet incident — something which Jai (Chris Bisson) later re-iterated to Laurel and Arthur.
Laurel was shocked to realise Arthur had been telling the truth this whole time, and she didn’t believe him. The young lad reminded his mum of the conversation they’d had when Sandy passed away — when she promised that if he always told the truth, everything would be okay — and how, in spite of this, she’s refused to believe him.
Laurel realised the mistake she’d made, and Arthur stormed off.
Will they be able to see eye to eye again?
Emmerdale continues Friday 15 May at 7pm on ITV.
