Spoilers: Corrie reveals Geoff and Tim's dark past as Yasmeen faces trial

Geoff Metcalfe (Ian Bartholomew) has made Yasmeen Nazir’s (Shelley king) life a living hell in Coronation Street, and with Yasmeen set to face her bail hearing in the coming episodes —following the attack in which the abuser almost died — it’s safe to say that this story is far from over.

With word of Yasmeen’s actions having filtered throughout the cobbles, residents were shocked to learn of what transpired. Alya (Sair Khan), however, knew exactly what Geoff was capable of prior to the attack, and she’s made it her mission to right the injustice and free her gran.

The Jocelyn Walkie incident — which Alya came to discover from a mere internet search — suggests that Geoff has done this sort of thing before, so there’s a large possibility that delving into the character’s past could turn up more skeletons.

Corrie boss Iain MacLeod has revealed that Geoff’s past will, in fact, be explored in more detail. He told Metro.co.uk: ‘It would be highly unlikely that Geoff had never committed these behaviours previously. What we have discovered from our research is that perpetrators have a cyclical pattern of behaviour.’

‘They lure someone in with lovebombing and grand gestures and that gradually gives way over time. ‘

They then move onto someone else so it’s right we look back at Geoff’s previous relationships and see he has done this before.’

In spite of Alya’s claims, Tim (Joe Duttine) refuses to have a bad word said against his dad — whom he thinks the world of, but we’re also going to find out more about their relationship.

‘We will really explore Geoff and Tim’s backstory. It’s a good opportunity to find out about Tim’s family background. Lots of family saga stuff to come. ‘

With Yasmeen facing the prospect of jail time, will Geoff’s past shed any light and thus be able to help her?

Coronation Street continues Monday 11 May at 7:30pm on ITV.
