Who are the Who Wants To Be A Millionaire winners?

WHO Wants To Be A Millionaire? has been gripping the nation since it first aired back in 1998.

Although the show teases the chance to scoop £1M – there have only been five real winners.

Who has won Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?

There have only been five real winners so far on the show as Charles Ingram, who was the third winner of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? in 2001, had his claim to the prize thrown out because of cheating allegations.

Although he has always denied the now famous "coughing scandal" the ex-Army Major was found guilty of swindling the show with the help of his wife Diana and a accomplice, Tecwen Whittock.

Here we take you through the real winners of the show, starting with the most recent, which was 14 years ago.

Ingram Wilcox – 2006

Ingram is a British quiz enthusiast and reigning champion of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?.

He became the fifth person to win the top prize on September 23, 2006.

Ingram had used all his lifelines up at the £32K mark, but still went on to scoop the jackpot.

Pat Gibson – 2004

Pat is a world champion Irish quiz player.

On April 2004, he became the fourth person to win the top prize.

Amazingly Pat had TWO of his lifelines still available for his final question, something no other winner has managed.

He narrowed down the answers with 50:50, then used Phone-a-Friend to call another quizzing champion and confirm what he had thought was the right answer, which it was.

Robert Brydges – 2001

Robert is an Oxford-educated banker from Holland Park, London.

On September 29, 2001, he became the third person to win the show's top prize.

Robert has stayed out of the limelight since his win.

David Edwards – 2001

David Edwards is a former physics teacher of Cheadle High School and Denstone College in Staffordshire.

On April 21, 2001, he became the second contestant to win the top prize.

Following his success, Edwards went on to compete in both series of Are You an Egghead? in 2008 and 2009.

When he was on Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?, David’s Phone-a-Friend was his son Richard, who later competed himself and won £125,000.

Judith Keppel – 2000

In 2000, garden designer Judith Keppel made quiz show history as she became the first ever winner of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?.

Judith is also the only woman ever to have won the million-pound prize.

Fun fact, she is the third cousin of Camilla Parker-Bowles and can trace her ancestry back to the Royal Family, who her jackpot question just happened to be about.
