was found two miles deep during an expedition led by the NOAA, which was streamed online.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>NOAA posted a photo to Twitter\u00a0and said the &#8216;golden orb&#8217;, likely an egg casing, struck an &#8216;imaginative chord&#8217; for many watching the livestream.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Rather than leave it where it was, the NOAA deployed a remotely operated arm to &#8216;tickle&#8217; the object and remove it from its rock.<\/p>\n<p>It was then suctioned up a tube to bring it back to shore, where DNA testing in the lab should hopefully reveal more about what it is.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Experts are undecided as to what caused the gaping hole at the front, although it could be the result of an altercation with another sea creature.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;Something tried to get in&#8230; or to get out,&#8217; one researcher said during the live feed, according to the\u00a0Miami Herald.<\/p>\n<p>Another team member said: &#8216;I just hope when we poke it, something doesn&#8217;t decide to come out.<\/p>\n<p>They added that it was like the beginning of a horror movie&#8217;, in reference to an early scene in Ridley Scott&#8217;s Alien where John Hurt&#8217;s character comes across the &#8216;facehugger&#8217; she told MailOnline.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;It&#8217;s always exciting to see new things and I will wait eagerly for the analysis on the sample to understand what it actually is.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;There are many many undiscovered species in the deep sea so this could be related to a new species quite easily.&#8217;\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Professor Howell also said the hole could be where the creature inhales and exhales if it is a sponge, or where the animal hatched from if it is egg casing.<\/p>\n<p>Murray Roberts, a professor of marine biology at the University of Edinburgh, agreed with NOAA scientists that it could be an egg case.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;Several species, including vulnerable deep-sea fish like sharks and rays, lay their egg cases on seamounts or in cold-water coral habitats,&#8217; This animal is ~60 cm long (including tail), with red feeding palps (or &#8216;lips&#8217;) visibly extended from its anterior end (right)<\/p>\n<p>Amongst those found were spindly starfish, tulip-shaped sea sponges, prickly urchins and &#8216;gummy squirrel&#8217;
