Home and Away legend Lynne McGranger has been a staple on telly screens for 30 years.

The actress, best known for playing Irene Roberts, shot to fame back in 1993 – and since then, she’s become the longest-serving female cast member on the popular Aussie soap.

And it’s fair to say Lynne has been involved in several big storylines, including her current one at the moment.

Viewers of the iconic soap this week will see Irene be plagued with feelings of loneliness, after her pal and temporary roommate John Palmer, moves back into his own place.

Although her on-screen character has had a troubled love life in Summer Bay, actress Lynne has been in a relationship with her partner Paul McWaters for nearly 40 years.

So as things take an emotional turn for Irene on Home & Away, Daily Star is taking a look inside the star’s 39-year-relationship with her partner.

Aussie soap star Lynne and Paul have been together for a whopping 39 years.

Despite keeping their relationship pretty low-key, Lynne opened up about their romance back in 2014 where she recalled how they met.

Speaking to New Idea, she said: “I invited him round to my place in 1984 [after having dinner together] and he never went home. Still hasn't.”

And apparently, Lynne says her mega-successful stint on Home and Away is all down to her beau.

“Aside from being a wonderful man, if it wasn't for him I'd never have been able to do what I've done on Home And Away,” she told Woman's Day.

“He took over as a house husband and primary carer of Clancy. He's amazing. We still enjoy each other's company and still make each other laugh."

Despite all the milestone years the happy couple have had, the two are in no rush to get married.

Lynne said: “I'm still waiting [for him to propose].

"We always joke and say we’ll do it when we want some white goods, and I’m here to tell you now, we need a new washing machine!"

But Lynne does have plans for when the two do say their “I do’s” and tie the knot.

"If we do get married it will probably be a barbecue in the backyard," she said.

The couple share a daughter together called Clancy, but in 1996, Lynne faced heartbreak when she suffered a miscarriage with her second child.

Speaking to TV Week, Lynne bravely revealed in 1996, when Clancy was just five-years-old, she suffered a miscarriage.

Lynne's miscarriage also coincided with her character Irene Roberts announcing that she was pregnant on the soap.

"I remember the scene quite clearly. Irene was showing off the photos of the baby in utero – I just lost it," she said.

She also called the experience of working on the storyline a "traumatic and bumpy" time, but praised the cast and crew for supporting her on set.
