{"id":78299,"date":"2023-09-19T07:56:42","date_gmt":"2023-09-19T07:56:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/posterboyedit.com\/?p=78299"},"modified":"2023-09-19T07:56:42","modified_gmt":"2023-09-19T07:56:42","slug":"my-baby-was-born-with-beautiful-blue-eyes-but-there-was-a-chilling-reason","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/posterboyedit.com\/lifestyle\/my-baby-was-born-with-beautiful-blue-eyes-but-there-was-a-chilling-reason\/","title":{"rendered":"My baby was born with beautiful blue eyes \u2013 but there was a chilling reason"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A baby girl&apos;s &quot;beautiful big blue eyes&quot; turned out to be a symptom of a condition that causes blindness.<\/p>\n<p>Louise Bice, 34, was stunned when Aretria was born with big blue peepers \u2013 a trait no one else in the family had.<\/p>\n<p>Strangers would compliment them &quot;six or seven times every day&quot;, which Louise loved.<\/p>\n<p><b> READ MORE: Super gonorrhoea at &apos;risk of becoming untreatable&apos;, experts warn <\/b><\/p>\n<p>But at six months old one of Aretria&apos;s eyes turned &quot;milky&quot; and any light caused the tot to scream in pain.<\/p>\n<p>Louise and partner Connor Bice, 29, were told she had a severe case of bilateral congenital glaucoma \u2013 a genetic abnormality which saw extreme and growing pressure on the optic nerve \u2013 and needed urgent surgery.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i2-prod.dailystar.co.uk\/incoming\/article30956255.ece\/ALTERNATES\/s615b\/0_i-used-to-get-c-1061806jpeg.jpg\"><\/p>\n<p>Aretria, now 10 months old, had a four-hour surgery at Birmingham Children\u2019s Hospital, in June to relieve the pressure &#8211; but follow-up tests showed it had failed.<\/p>\n<p>She had a second surgery last month [August] and her parents are awaiting the results.<\/p>\n<p>Louise, a stay-at-home mum from Mansfield, Notts, said: &quot;I never expected Ari&apos;s big, beautiful eyes to be a bad thing.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;Suddenly one day her eye clouded over \u2013 one minute it was fine and 15 minutes later it was completely changed.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;Specialists had to do horrific tests on her and I learned she had already lost some vision in both eyes.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;After two surgeries we still don&apos;t know what will happen \u2013 she already has just 5% vision left in her right eye.&quot;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i2-prod.dailystar.co.uk\/incoming\/article30956257.ece\/ALTERNATES\/s615b\/0_i-used-to-get-c-1061802jpeg.jpg\"><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<figure data-mod=\"image\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i2-prod.dailystar.co.uk\/incoming\/article30955625.ece\/ALTERNATES\/s458\/0_Model-sends-fans-into-meltdown-as-she-cheekily-pulls-up-top-and-asks-saucy-question.jpg\"><\/figure>\n<p> Model sends fans into meltdown as she cheekily pulls up top and asks saucy question<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/s2-prod.mirror.co.uk\/@trinitymirrordigital\/chameleon-branding\/publications\/dailystar\/img\/logo-schema-dailystar.png\"><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In a warning to other parents, she added: &quot;I just think if we had managed to get this diagnosed before the pressure got out of control, she might not now be blind in one eye.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;If someone had said it was weird, she had big eyes rather than cute we might have got it checked \u2013 but none of us knew it was even a red flag.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;If we knew that before, she might not be blind in her right eye now.&quot;<\/p>\n<p>Any signs of enlarged eyes, watering, redness and shining away from light should be reported to a health care professional at the earliest.<\/p>\n<p><b> <i> Want all the biggest Lifestyle news straight to your inbox?
