{"id":78671,"date":"2023-09-23T03:15:16","date_gmt":"2023-09-23T03:15:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/posterboyedit.com\/?p=78671"},"modified":"2023-09-23T03:15:16","modified_gmt":"2023-09-23T03:15:16","slug":"new-victorian-liberal-president-calls-out-treachery-disunity","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/posterboyedit.com\/lifestyle\/new-victorian-liberal-president-calls-out-treachery-disunity\/","title":{"rendered":"New Victorian Liberal president calls out treachery, disunity"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>Save articles for later<\/h3>\n<p>Add articles to your saved list and come back to them any time.<\/p>\n<p>Former Victorian Liberal MP Philip Davis will take over as the party\u2019s state president, vowing to dig the party out of a hole and root out treachery and disunity.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking following his election on Saturday at the state council meeting at Moonee Valley Racecourse in Melbourne, Davis said he was humbled to receive the support of delegates.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/static.ffx.io\/images\/$zoom_0.187%2C$multiply_0.7725%2C$ratio_1.5%2C$width_756%2C$x_0%2C$y_15\/t_crop_custom\/q_86%2Cf_auto\/b315716a3290640735fd76a3a5a04bd39b5be519\" height=\"390\" width=\"584\"><\/p>\n<p><span>Philip Davis arriving at the state council meeting at Moonee Valley Racecourse on Saturday.<\/span><cite class=\"ojLwA\"><span>Credit: <\/span>Simon Schluter<\/cite><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe party has been in a very difficult place for a long time, and I\u2019m committed to working with all of you to dig us out of the hole,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Davis urged members to respect one another and slammed those leaking to journalists of \u201ctreachery\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis division, it seems, more than any other division, has been riven by disunity in recent times.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Davis\u2019s election will be a relief to Opposition Leader John Pesutto.<\/p>\n<p>Contender Caroline Inge \u2013 the Liberal Party\u2019s federal vice-president and a former staffer, friend and ally of Tim Smith \u2013 had campaigned on withholding party funds for the leadership team to defend defamation proceedings.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUnder my leadership, every possible resource will be used to campaign and win elections, not to fund the private legal expenses of our parliamentary representatives,\u201d Inge said in a bio statement circulated to members ahead of the vote.<\/p>\n<p>Liberal Party headquarters had never shown a willingness to indemnify Pesutto or senior MPs David Southwick, Georgie Crozier and Matt Bach to defend defamation threats from exiled MP Moira Deeming.<\/p>\n<p>But the parliamentary party last month voted to advocate for some financial support.<\/p>\n<p>The position of state president was forced to a vote when both Davis and Inge nominated to replace Greg Mirabella, who in August announced he would resign to seek to return to the Senate.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/static.ffx.io\/images\/$zoom_0.259%2C$multiply_0.7725%2C$ratio_1.5%2C$width_756%2C$x_0%2C$y_0\/t_crop_custom\/q_86%2Cf_auto\/aa81ef66ede1532f9d1a3e5e875daad3fc3e810d\" height=\"390\" width=\"584\"><\/p>\n<p><span>Greg Mirabella announced he would resign as Victorian Liberal Party president in August.<\/span><cite class=\"ojLwA\"><span>Credit: <\/span>Alex Ellinghausen<\/cite><\/p>\n<p>In a statement circulated to members ahead of state council, Davis said the Victorian party had a \u201cmonumental task\u201d ahead of it.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is now time for us to work together to renew the party organisation and the parliamentary wing.
