A BARGAIN supermarket with more than 300 stores closes TODAY – and locals feel they're now living in a ghost town.<\/p>\n
The Farmfoods store in Market Street,\u00a0Huddersfield, will scan its last bar code at 4pm.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
But shoppers will have the chance to snap up a bargain with 50 percent off all stock.<\/p>\n
Though locals feel put out, with one prophesying resident writing on Facebook: "Huddersfield is changing."<\/p>\n
Another said: "Huddersfield in town stores closing down = Iceland, Farmfoods, and Wilkos, why?<\/p>\n
"Rents to high."<\/p>\n

Farmfoods remains a favourite among bargain hunters as it often has cheap offers on popular products like\u00a0makeup\u00a0and\u00a0air fryers.<\/p>\n
Sadly, it isn't the first Farmfoods that has closed this year.<\/p>\n
Its Cowgate store in\u00a0Dundee\u00a0shut in March, with another\u00a0Glasgow\u00a0shop closing the month before.<\/p>\n
Plus\u00a0its store in West Bromwich\u00a0closed in May.<\/p>\n
<\/picture>PRICE DROP <\/span><\/p>\n <\/span><\/p>\n <\/picture>CASH CHECK <\/span><\/p>\n <\/span><\/p>\n <\/picture>BANK ON IT <\/span><\/p>\n <\/span><\/p>\n <\/picture>SHUTTERS DOWN<\/span><\/p>\n <\/span><\/p>\n The frozen food specialist\u00a0pulled down the shutters at its Baillieston\u00a0branch\u00a0at the end of February.<\/p>\n The store hosted a 50 percent off sale which saw shoppers\u00a0queuing up outside\u00a0to pick up discounted items.<\/p>\n While its Grangemouth branch shut up shop in January, with two others in Ayrshire and Renfrewshire seeing off its last customer in October 2022.<\/p>\n And it's another blow for shoppers in Huddersfield, as its Iceland on Trinity Street will shut on October 28.<\/p>\n It follows a particularly tumultuous time for UK high streets with several popular chains including M&Co and Paperchase closing all stores in 2023.<\/p>\n Wilko was the casualty on the high street, closing all of its 400 stores by October. <\/p>\n It will see thousands of\u00a0Wilko\u00a0employees made redundant.<\/p>\n Retailers have been feeling the pinch since the pandemic while shoppers are cutting back on spending due to soaring inflation.<\/p>\n High energy costs and a shift to shopping online after the pandemic are also taking a toll and many high street shops have struggled to keep going.<\/p>\nMajor supermarket offers huge discount off weekly shop to millions of Brits<\/h3>\n
