POLICE firearms coverage remains \u201csignificantly less than normal\u201d, the Met\u2019s chief said yesterday.<\/p>\n
Sir Mark Rowley said the shortage has left the London force with \u201cdifficult choices\u201d.<\/p>\n

More than 100 gun officers are refusing to work in protest at a colleague being charged with murdering rapper Chris Kaba, 24, in Streatham last September.<\/p>\n
But two thirds have returned to duty after Home Secretary Suella Braverman promised a review<\/span> into their legal rights.<\/p>\n Sir Mark said yesterday: \u201cWe can provide credible firearms cover but, I must be honest, it\u2019s still significantly less than normal which will create some difficult choices.\u201d<\/p>\n He said officers were \u201cextremely anxious\u201d over the charging of their colleague, known as NX121. <\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n Sir Mark added: \u201cMany are under pressure from partners, parents, children who are saying, \u2018I\u2019m worried what you might go through based on your job\u2019.\u201d<\/p>\n An Old Bailey judge will decide next<\/span> week if NX121 should remain anonymous.<\/p>\n Policing minister Chris Philp yesterday said armed officers should be paid more than beat bobbies because of the \u201cextraordinary danger\u201d they faced.<\/p>\nREAD MORE ON THE POLICE<\/span><\/h2>\n
