The boss of a luxury Highland resort was fired after Ukrainian refugees housed there hit out at the \u2018harrowing\u2019 conditions they were forced to live in.<\/p>\n
Iain Miller lost his \u00a3120,000-a-year role following their complaints, including claims Strathspey Hotel was \u2018infested with vermin\u2019 and only served \u2018nuggets and chips\u2019.<\/p>\n
An employment tribunal heard Macdonald Aviemore Resort\u2019s managing director was also blamed for leaving 85 rooms un-serviced while a film crew was staying.<\/p>\n
Mr Miller was sacked after senior executive Natalya Macholla found his \u2018egregious\u2019 failings had damaged the company\u2019s reputation.\u00a0<\/p>\n
He sued for unfair dismissal but a tribunal in\u00a0Glasgow threw out his case after concluding he was to blame for the issues.<\/p>\n

Mr Miller\u2019s remit consisted of four hotels, two resorts and a conference centre.<\/p>\n
The tribunal heard that in June 2022 the firm\u2019s founder, Donald Macdonald, reported that one of the resorts was a \u2018complete disaster\u2019 and Mr Miller had \u2018let the place go\u2019.<\/p>\n
Later that year a film crew complained the towels and linen weren\u2019t changed at the 85 rooms they had taken for five days.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Mr Miller lost his \u00a3120,000-a-year role following complaints by\u00a0Ukrainian refugees<\/p>\n
The tribunal was also told that in August 2022, a number of Ukrainian refugees arrived.<\/p>\n
Their \u2018harrowing stories of living conditions\u2019 soon reached the local paper.\u00a0<\/p>\n
A disciplinary hearing held in December found the \u2018failings\u2019 at Strathspey Hotel and the \u2018resulting reputational damage\u2019 were \u2018egregious\u2019 and Mr Miller was fired.<\/p>\n
Employment judge Rory McPherson yesterday found the decision to sack the 58-year-old was a reasonable one. He said: \u2018As the most senior person based wholly on site, he was accountable.\u2019<\/p>\n
