Strictly slippers! Shirley Ballas steps out in yellow smiley-face shoes ahead of her return to the ballroom
Queen of the ballroom Shirley Ballas swaps her dancing shoes for slippers after an intense workout – as she undergoes training for Strictly’s return.
The show’s head judge was spotted emerging from a studio near her home in south-east London, where she had been doing a session of hot yoga – her secret to keeping fit for the dancefloor.
The 63-year-old scraped back her hair as she attempted to cool down after the yoga, which takes place in a room with the heating turned up. And she had with her all the essentials: a Fitbit, water and yoga towel. Standing out above anything else, though, was the casual £22 pair of smiley-face slippers from the easy living brand Nordic Peace.
Ms Ballas gave a nod to her beloved rescue pup Charlie with a T-shirt that read: ‘My dog is my spirit animal’. She credits the lhasa apso with getting her through her late father’s death.

She kicks off the show by dancing with professionals Giovanni Pernice and Carlos Gu.
Strictly is notorious for the gruelling training celebrity contestants must undergo but it appears even the judges have to sweat for the show. Ms Ballas told the Mail last month: ‘I lost 9lb. Yoga is something I’m going to keep up throughout the whole Strictly series.’
