Calls for town mayor to resign after she ‘drunkenly grabbed a man’s beard and tried to steal his phone’ on night out at local Conservative club
- Mayor Tracy Reardon must write apology letter and complete diversion course
A town mayor has been met with calls for her resignation after she allegedly grabbed a man’s beard and tried to steal his phone on a drunken night out.
East Cowes Mayor Tracy Reardon, 55, has been accused of assaulting a man in his 30s earlier this month at the local Conservative club, The Island Echo reported.
The mayor was ‘swiftly banned’ from the club and voluntarily revoked her membership, reportedly vowing to never enter again.
She has also been ordered to write a letter of apology and complete a diversion course.
However, upset locals are still arguing that she should resign from her position in wake of the ’embarrassing situation having now been made public’.

The alleged incident occurred at East Cowes Conservative Club on Clarence Road in the early hours of November 3 whilst Reardon was reportedly intoxicated.
She is understood to have grabbed a man’s beard, attempted to steal his phone and used ‘foul language’.
Witnesses also claim she proclaimed ‘I am the Mayor of East Cowes’ as she carried out the alleged assault.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary told the newspaper that the incident was handled by the means of a community order.
But locals are still seemingly bothered by the reported behaviour, with the club Committee saying it is ‘not appropriate’ – especially for ‘someone who represents our town at such a high level’.
When approached by the paper, the mayor reportedly said: ‘I have no comment at this time.’
The East Cowes Conservative Club confirmed to MailOnline that the incident had been accurately reported, but declined to comment further. The East Cowes Town Council and police have been approached for comment.
