BBC Strictly’s Angela Rippon shares insight into training
Strictly Come Dancing’s Kai Widdrington claims his choreography doesn’t “always go through” to Angela Rippon’s feet.
Following the judge’s unanimous decision to save the duo from the dance-off last Saturday, the pair have been hard at work practising their upcoming Paso Doble to ‘Hung Up’ by Madonna.
On Thursday (November 9), the pair took to social media to provide a humorous update on how training for the eighth Strictly live show was going.
Angela, 79, posted the same video to Instagram and X (formerly Twitter), which showed herself and Kai taking time out from fine-tuning their steps.
Opening the video, which was shared with the Rip Off Britain star’s 28,900 followers and the 28-year-old’s 229,000, Kai said: “What people don’t realise sometimes that when I’m teaching Angela, sometimes it doesn’t always… the message doesn’t always get through to the feet sometimes.

“So I have to go via hotline,” he added, before lifting the star’s famously flexible leg up to his ear.
“So I have to go ‘Hi, Ange. Hello? Is she in? No, she’s not in. Nobody’s home’. You want to speak to her? No?”
Laughing whilst still having her left leg suspended in the air, the broadcaster said: “Do I want to speak to my feet? Yeah tell them they’ve got to listen to you and do all the steps. Just tell them.”
Kai then obliged before pretending to ‘hang up’ the call using the 79-year-old’s feet.
The post was shared alongside the caption: “The number you have dialled has not been recognised. Please hang up and dance again…” and has since seen fans praising the pair on their partnership.

One Instagram user wrote: “Love it, Angela’s face she’s so precious looks like she’s now used to your humour. Love it go Kai & Angela (sic) to Blackpool!”
“This is far too funny. I love seeing this side of @kaiwidd. He seems to be showing his real personality a lot more this year,” replied a second.
Another commented: “This is too funny hahah you absolute jokers.”
The video comes days after the journalist admitted she was “cross” with herself following last weekend’s live show.
Appearing alongside Kai on Strictly: It Takes Two, Angela told host Fleur East that the dance-off was “really upsetting”.
“I was cross with myself I think, because, clearly, I hadn’t done everything that Kai had been drumming into me during the week. But at the same time the upside to that is we got to dance it again and normally, of course, you don’t. It was lovely to be able to do it again.”
When asked if she was nervous going up against Adam Thomas and professional partner Luba Mushtuk, the star responded: “I think the situation we’re in at the moment is the pool is getting so small now, there were nine of us there’s only eight of us now.
“Which means if there is only going to be three people in the final, then every week it gets tougher and someone is going to be the one who is going to be eliminated.”
She added that the Waterloo Road actor was “such a lovely guy” and that the whole cast had become “great friends”.
“When you are the other person in the dance-off, you know that you are going to battle it out with someone who’s become a mate. It’s tough, it is tough,” she added.
Tune into Strictly Come Dancing this Saturday on BBC One at 6.05pm.
