Michael van Gerwen gets the badge in again after World Darts Championship win

Darts fans were loving Michael van Gerwen's latest 'get the badge in' stunt following his victory at Ally Pally on Tuesday.

The Dutchman kicked off his World Darts Championship campaign in stylish fashion with a 3-0 win over Keane Barry – though he saved a little style for afterwards too. He's no stranger to a Stone Island jacket and a snap of him wearing one as he left the Palace after the game quickly did the rounds on social media.

In response, one X user wrote: "Operation get the badge in in full swing from MVG here." Another said: "Classic Van Gerwen getting the badge in." A third added: "Shameless get the badge in antics there Mike."

For any lameoids not in the know, Stone Island is an Italian clothing brand subject to a widespread meme where customers flash the company badge on their clothes for the cameras, spawning the hashtag: 'get the badge in'. Mighty Mike has got the badge in on several occasions this year, including while buying a car and visiting Cambridge University.

He isn't the only Stone Island-loving darts star on the circuit, mind. World Championship nine-dart legend Willie ‘Big Willie’ Borland got the badge in at the World Matchplay in July, sending fans into tizz.

Van Gerwen averaged 98.17 as he cruised past Barry into the third round. There, he'll face either Kim Huybrechts or the winner of Richard Veenstra vs Ben Robb.

The three-time world champion will be hoping to avoid a repeat of the embarrassment he suffered at 2022 World Darts Championship where he was eliminated in the third round after testing positive for Covid-19. In the 2023 edition he made it all the way to the final, but was beaten by Michael Smith in a stunning encounter.
