Bargain Hunts Charles Hanson speaks out after assault charge

Bargain Hunt’s Charles Hanson is reported to have been charged over “seven alleged offences” following a police probe into domestic abuse allegations. The 45-year-old is said to appear in court next month over the offences.

Earlier this year, the TV auctioneer was reported to have moved out of the £1.5 million home he shared with his wife of 13 years, Rebecca.

He was then questioned by police over an alleged domestic row at his address, according to The Sun.

A spokesperson for Derbyshire Police said: “The force was called to reports of a domestic incident at an address in Church Road, Quarndon in June (2023). A man in his 40s was arrested on suspicion of assault and was released on police bail while enquiries continued.

“On 14 December, Charles Hanson was charged with seven alleged offences: Assault/ill treatment/neglect or abandonment of a child/young person to cause unnecessary suffering or injury,” and “assault/ill-treat/neglect/abandon a child/young person to cause unnecessary suffering or injury.”

Hanson has been released on police bail and will appear at Southern Derbyshire Magistrates’ Court on January 10.

Derbyshire Police previously told Express.co.uk: “The force was called to reports of a domestic incident at an address in Quarndon on June 13.”

The Sun previously reported that Hanson has been “charged” with “seven offences,” including two offences involving “actual bodily harm”. There are also two counts of “assault by beating” and “one of controlling and coercive behaviour”.

A source told the publication about the alleged row: “It is not the sort of place you expect police to turn up. But a car came and they spoke to Charles. It is a tiny village so a few people have been talking.”

Express.co.uk has contacted a representative of Charles Hanson for comment.

Hanson began his career in 1999 before starting his own antiques firm in 2005. He first appeared on Bargain Hunt in 2002, becoming the youngest expert to appear on the show aged 25 at the time.

He later launched Hansons London in 2008. Charles moved into his £900,000 luxury property with Rebecca in 2014, four years after they tied the knot together in Derbyshire. The couple share two children together.

In an interview with Express.co.uk back in May, Charles opened up about the mistakes he’s made in his long career path. Talking about his firm, he explained: “It was a sort of big thing to start my own. So when I was 27 years old, I wasn’t married, had no dependents and you know, I made a few mistakes but you learn and you build it slowly.”

Hanson met Rebecca through mutual friends in 2008 and their wedding included guests from Bargain Hunt including presenter Tim Wonnacott and experts Kate Bliss, David Barby and Jonathan Pratt.
