Peter Wright and Adrian Lewis will be absent from this year’s Players Championship Finals – and probably just as well following their massive bust-up at the tournament two years ago.
The darts icons, both two-time world champions, had to be pulled apart by the referee and security after a fiery end to their second round match, which Snakebite won 6-5. After hitting the winning double, Wright was confronted with a raging Jackpot, who gesticulated angrily at his rival.
Wright wasn’t having any of it though and argued back, with referee Kirk Bevins feeling the need to intervene. That did little to cool emotions, with security eventually getting involved to urge both men off the stage.

Lewis later accused Wright of cheating, tweeting: "I honestly did nothing wrong. Even I was bewildered with what was going on and trying to process it whilst trying to concentrate on my darts. So at the end of the game I wanted to find out what was his problem because I didn't have a clue what was going on.
"He said to me there was a loose floorboard and I found it! So my response to him was: 'You took me out my rhythm, you had a game plan, and as world number two, it's disgraceful and you're nothing but a cheat.

"He knew what he was doing, as soon as I went 3-1 up he started muttering things and shaking his head at me which put me in a situation that made me feel uncomfortable.
"The people who I fall out with always have to be the ones (that) apologise because they know I'm not a cheat, never have been, never will be!"

Responding to those comments, Wright said: "I'm not bothered about Adrian and the comments. If people want to put stupid messages on there [Twitter], put stupid messages, so it's up to them. I just go and play my game and plod along."
As for their absence from this year’s event at Butlin’s Minehead, Wright failed to qualify while Lewis is taking an extended break from the game after a tough few years which have seen him tumble down the rankings. The tournament is the last stop on the road before the World Championship at Alexandra Palace.
