Diesel’s Fall 2023 campaign might just be the most stylish take on Where’s Waldo? to date. Governed by creative director Glenn Martens and art director Chris Simmonds, the sartorial imagery pictures an army of denim-drenched characters in an imaginative brand universe; and according to the brand, it’s up to you to find the beauty in the D-tails.
Shot in Breganze, Italy, by photographer Johnny Dufort, the campaign includes six hero shots featuring armies of Diesel models, interpolated with the brand’s executives, including founder Renzo Rosso. Denim, of course, appears in abundance, with a new selection of biker darts, cargo silhouettes and coated outerwear, and utilitarian coats adopt a new textural palette of brown, camel and burgundy. Velvet runway looks, meanwhile, call attention amidst the chaos.
Elsewhere, devoré denim adds a burnout effect to sheer tulle, and a larger-than-life destroyed denim coat mimics the nature of faux fur. Moto jackets appear melted; cracked leather further fuels the collection’s deconstructive personality, and pop-art photo prints take over jackets, tube tops and miniskirts.
Beginning on September 8, Diesel’s “Find the D” campaign will come to life in an interactive game that challenges clients and fans to compete for real prizes. Over the course of two months, the brand will task players with finding specific objects within its campaign imagery. Those who successfully locate the hidden items will be entered into a drawing to win prizes, which will include a 1DR bag, an Oval belt skirt, caps, sneakers, sunglasses, watches, Diesel sex toys, fragrances and more. Register for the game on Diesel’s FW23 microsite.
