Villazan Lab aka VLAB introduces A DREAM MEMORY, a debut solo exhibition in Spain by South Korean visual artist Jade Kim. Showcasing unseen works, Kim unveils a heartfelt narrative centered on his wife’s childhood experiences, embodied through the character “MIN.”
Born in Seoul in 1981, Kim transitioned from a career in exhibition curation and product planning to pursue his passion for art full-time. His artistic journey revolves around “MIN,” a cartoon persona crafted from his wife’s interests and his tender, romantic imagination. With wide, innocent eyes, “Min” embodies both an angelic tenderness and an inner strength against celestial backdrops, reflecting Kim’s deep love for his wife and the world. Each piece encapsulates Kim’s affection and reflects conversations, preferences, and dream stories shared with his wife. Through this artistic journey, Kim aims to etch her name into the hearts of many.
The exhibition invites viewers to empathize and project themselves onto “Min,” offering an exploration of relationships. Flowers in the artworks’ backgrounds symbolize a narrative of sorrow, particularly resonating with the experience of a childless couple.
A DREAM MEMORY is currently on view at VLAB through December 16. Elsewhere in art, Cleon Peterson released a new ‘Blood and Soil’ book and screenprint.
