Paul Scholes names the only Man Utd player who would get into his legendary team | The Sun

PAUL SCHOLES has named CASEMIRO as the one current Manchester United star that would have made it into his Red Devils side.

Scholes, 48, won 11 Premier League titles across a remarkable 20-year career at Old Trafford.

He was an integral part of Sir Alex Ferguson's iconic 1998/99 Treble-winning side.

Then, nearly a decade later, he played 34 times in all competitions during the 2007/08 campaign as Man Utd claimed a Premier League-Champions League double.

His best team-mates included Cristiano Ronaldo, Wayne Rooney, Roy Keane, Ryan Giggs, David Beckham and many, many more.

As a result, he could only see one of Erik ten Hag's men making the starting XI during those golden years.

Speaking on Rio Ferdinand's FIVE YouTube channel, he said: "It's difficult because we had such a brilliant squad of players.

"But… you think of Casemiro. Once he came into that team last year, there was a huge difference.

"The experience he had from Real Madrid, winning trophy after trophy in the best team.

"How it took him so long to get into the team I'll never know. But he's in there now.

"I don't know if some of those players could have played in our team. Marcus [Rashford] was brilliant, [but] I don't know."

Man Utd have struggled ever since Scholes retired ten years ago – at the end of the club's last title-winning season – when Ferguson also departed.

In the decade that has followed, their only trophies have been one FA Cup, two League Cups and the Europa League.

Meanwhile, Scholes joked in the same interview that he was " not an athlete" during his playing days.

And he jokingly claimed presenter Harry Pinero was trying not to look at his stomach in a hilariously awkward exchange.
