Dad ADMITS killing son, 12, who died after being hit by a car while he walked on M62 in horror crash | The Sun

A DAD has admitted killing his 12-year-old son who was struck by a car while walking on the motorway after a crash.

Callum Rycroft was hit by a Toyota C-HR while on the eastbound carriage of the M62 last month.

Police believe he was walking on the motorway after an earlier crash involving an Audi Q5 he was travelling in on a slip road.

His dad Matthew Rycroft today pleaded guilty to manslaughter and dangerous driving.

He also admitted failing to provide a specimen for analysis during the hearing at Leeds Crown Court.

Rycroft was driving him and Callum in the Audi Q5 from Paddock Cricket, Bowling and Athletic Club, Huddersfield, to Hartshead service station on the M62 when the horror unfolded.

He was remanded into custody ahead of a sentencing date that is yet to be set.

Police were scrambled to the M62, between junctions 25 and 26, at around 9.50pm on August 5.

Officers believe Callum was trying to make his way from the central reservation to the hard shoulder when he was hit by the Toyota.

The horror followed a separate, single vehicle crash involving the Audi earlier that night.
