When cricketing great Shane Warne spontaneously died of a heart attack 18 months ago, his one-time girlfriend immediately broke into tears.
Emily Scott, who dated Warne briefly in 2013 after he broke up with British actor Liz Hurley, recalled the moment she was told by her mother that the sporting legend had died from a heart attack in March 2022.
Warne had been holidaying with friends in Thailand and was seemingly healthy when news of his sudden death shocked his family, friends and fans.
He was ‘larger than life’, Ms Scott said, and was recently reminded of him after Coldplay leader singer Chris Martin paid tribute to his dear friend during their concert in Perth this week.
The model and DJ had attended one of the band’s concerts with Warne and his children, Brooke, 26, Jackson, 24 and Summer, 20, in London while they were dating.

Warne had a lasting impact on her despite their short-lived romance and they remained friends until his sudden death on March 4.
‘I remember my mum calling me and she was upset and crying and I was crying, it was just so sad,’ Ms Scott told the Daily Telegraph.
‘Those types of people leave a lasting impact on you.’
The pair first met in London 20 years ago when Ms Scott was modelling and she said that she considered him a mentor.
During their time together she learned how much Warne loved Coldplay and Martin, with whom he was good friends.
At the band’s Perth concert Martin spontaneously sang a tribute for his late friend while Warne’s now-adult children were in the crowd.
‘Friends come, friends go / There are some people you’re just lucky to know. If I could, I’d do it all again / Thanks for everything, Shane,’ he sang.
