As half of Walford was on hand to celebrate the wedding of Kat Slater and Phil Mitchell with nothing but joy, elsewhere in Albert Square tragedy was unfolding for the Panesar family as Nugget made the heartbreaking decision to run away from home.
Suki Panesar had been taking care of the youngster in Thursday night's episode, 21 September, after she had revealed to him that his father Ravi Gulati was responsible for murdering his adoptive father, Nugget’s grandpa, Ranveer Gulati.
Horrified by the news, Nugget had vowed to stay away from his dad as he struggled to come to terms with the weight of the truth about his sinister actions and went into hiding with Suki to try and avoid running into Ravi.
Unwilling to let his son vanish from his life, Ravi tirelessly began trying to search for his missing son, including asking Suki herself if she had seen Nugget – something which she categorically denied.
Following the refusal to share any information with him, Ravi soon left, leaving Suki and Nugget to bond over their experiences with the deceased Ranveer, with the teen sharing sweet anecdotes and a few facts about his favourite games and snacks.
Taking this information to heart, Suki soon dusted off an old board game so that they could play together, in the hopes of helping Nugget feel safe, something which appeared to have worked.
Sadly for the pair however, the moment of calm was soon short-lived, when Ravi returned to the house demanding to see his son.
Stepping out of the room briefly to confront Ravi, Suki once again explained she hadn’t seen Nugget and sent the killer on his way – only to realise that when she returned to the room where she had been playing board games, that Nugget had vanished completely.
The episode then revealed that the burden of Ravi’s crime had became too much for Nugget to handle and he decided to run away from home to escape him.
Fans were quick to share their thoughts on the latest development, with many left in tears at the ordeal Nugget was going through. One fan wrote: "Nugget running away, omg!"
A second then added: "Noooo. Come back Nugget! You don't have anywhere to go!" A third commented: "Ooooo it’s all gonna kick off next week when Ravi finds out Nugget’s done a runner. Hopefully this will open his eyes and make him fix up before it’s too late."
Meanwhile a fourth fan then weighed in: "Suki bring him home. He deserves so much better." Is this the last we’ve seen of Nugget, or will his family manage to bring him home?
EastEnders continues Monday to Thursday at 7.30pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer
