Lorraine Kelly hit with 100s of Ofcom complaints after body-shaming Im A Celeb star

Lorraine Kelly has been hit by hundreds of Ofcom complaints over comments about Nigel Farage which viewers branded as "body-shaming".

The ITV daytime star, 64, came under fire for airing her opinions on Nigel's appearance in I'm A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here!, propelling her to the third most complained about TV moment of last week.

She had been talking to Edwina Currie about former UKIP leader Nigel, who has been seen flashing his bum in the shower and bath in the ITV show's camp, but her comments on his looks have sparked 354 complaints to Ofcom.

Lorraine was talking about Nigel in the 21 November episode, where former health minister Edwina joined her to share her memories of doing I'm A Celebrity in 2014.

Asked about Nigel and why he would choose to do the reality show, Edwina said: "I think he’s in there because he thinks he can enhance his reputation.

"He’s seen as a responsible, intelligent and worthy person of some kind or other. He’s only, what 59? He’s got plenty ahead of him if he wants to get going again."

But Lorraine was shocked to hear Nigel's real age, asking: "Is he?! Is he only 59? I thought he was a hell of a lot older than that.

"That’s astonishing, that just shows you get the face you deserve! You really do."

Lorraine also added that she was "traumatised" after seeing Nigel's naked bum on the show, which he has not made much effort to cover up after washing.

Speaking on GB News about the interview, journalist Mike Parry claimed: "If a male broadcaster had said that about a female celebrity, that would be the end of his career. I'm certain of it."

Commenting on X, one person agreed: "Why hasn’t Lorraine Kelly apologised for body shaming Nigel Farage yet? Imagine if he made those comments about her on live TV… The media would cancel him!"

Someone else added: "I thought what Lorraine said about Nigel Farage body shaming him on live tv was unprofessional and insultingly mean and derogatory. I’m sure if a male presenter had said that about a female in the same situation then he would have been fired…"

The only shows receiving more complaints to broadcast regulator Ofcom last week were two episodes of I'm A Celebrity.

An episode shown on 21 November drew 907 complaints, while the following episode from camp on 22 November got the second most complaints with 898.
