Lorraine Kelly shares scary experience with strong coffee
Lorraine Kelly described the Lockerbie Bombing as an “absolute horror” in her new TV project away from her ITV chatshow.
The Scottish presenter’s documentary, Return To Lockerbie with Lorraine Kelly, will air on ITV next week and will see the 63-year-old exploring Europe’s deadliest terror attack – the Lockerbie disaster – and the impact it had on the town.
Drew Young, whose team was asked to guard the nosecone of the plane that had fallen in a field next to Tundergarth Church, features in the programme.
Speaking in the field next to the church, he tells her in a first-look clip: “A lot of folk wouldn’t talk about it… It’s like a shutter coming down.”
When asked if the feeling was still there, he answered: “The town shut down that night. The town shut down.”

This December will mark 35 years since Lorraine became one of the first TV reporters to arrive at the scene after Pan Am Flight 103 exploded mid-air, killing all 259 people aboard and 11 on the ground.
Before the police cordoned off the area, she saw first-hand the shocking aftermath of the disaster.
Confronting her own difficult memories, Lorraine will return to try to understand what happened to Lockerbie and its people once the TV cameras went home.
Speaking to Drew, she explained: “I feel that an awful lot of people don’t appreciate the scale of what happened and the effect it had on people here.

“I mean, how do people feel about what happened, people that lived through it like you. People that experienced the absolute horror of it?”
Drew admitted many people still can’t talk about what happened as the ITV host asked: “And do you feel that that still exists in some way today that people just don’t want to talk about it?”
“It’s still there, The town shut down that night. The town shut down,” he replied.
“God, it’s almost too much to take in… isn’t it? It really is. All those people,” Lorraine reflected.
“A lot of people. 270,” Drew remarked.
Return To Lockerbie with Lorraine Kelly airs on ITV1 and ITVX at 9pm on Wednesday, November 15.
